You are on the right path. We need reasons to believe. Faith in faith is not what being a Christian is all about. You will make the turn you desire when you come to the point where you have grounds to believe. Books like that are really helpful.

Feel free to PM me at any time if you want other recommendations for some reading.

I'm really enjoying it so far- got through a good chunk yesterday. His writing style really appeals to me.

That is wonderful! Reading Lewis was the main reason I realized I needed to return to Christianity.
Hope you find your way to the Orthodox Church, but at any rate, you're on your way!
God bless!

Hi again soulsearching1,

2. The other thing to remember, and don't think I'm nuts, is that there is a spiritual war going on for your soul. Satan and his demons do not want anyone to become a Christian. As long as they can distract you from Jesus, they've won. You don't even have to acknowledge their existence. They just want to prevent you from giving your heart to the Lord.

That is what I was thinking too. The worrying side of you is actually a chain that the enemy puts on you. The enemy loves to see you in distress, struggles, worries, sadness, tears, broken, torn, etc. Its like what soulsearching1 said, Jesus can take away all these strongholds once she accepts Him into her life. What I personally suggest for you at this point, soulsearching1, is to take your mind off from all your distractions. Your bf loves you and he forgives you for anything wrong you've done. If God deemed for the both of you to be together then nothing outside can change God's Will so why worry about your relationship? you're in God's Hands and theres nothing more assuring than that! The 2nd thing is, everyone makes mistakes...you were born with flaws. dont be too hard on yourself. afterall, you're only human arent you? God can forgive you for your sins, why cant you forgive yourself? The enemy is putting into your head, the thought that you need to be perfect, or you need to have all of your problems fixed instantly. If not then something bad is going to happen. But in actuality, throughout your whole life, nothing drastically bad has ever happened. God loves you, you're smart, educated, got family & friends, and a loving forgiving bf. The enemy is making you worry so that you can be distracted from accepting Jesus into your life. But thats going to change! Take control and stomp on the devil's head! Say this prayer and seek to be in His loving arms:

"Heavenly Father I thank You for sending Your One and only beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for my sins. Lord Jesus forgive me for all my sins (then confess your specific sins, what you did, where, when, why). Please wash away my sins with your precious blood and renew me in Your Name, Lord Jesus. Lord I humble myself before You and I ask that come into my life right now. Strengthen me O Lord. The enemy is constantly putting these worries into my head to distract me from You. But with the strength You give me, today I take the stance to stomp on the enemy's head and I will not let the enemy further distract me from accepting You into my life. Lord please dwell in my heart and take away all these worries and stress in me. Fill me heart with Your love and compassion and let me dwell in Your love, peace, and joy. In the Name of Jesus, I rebuke and cancel all the works of evil spirits. In the Name of Jesus, I break all the strongholds and chains that satan has laid upon me. I hear no evil, see no evil, feel no evil. Lord Jesus, I confess with my lips that You are my God, my Lord, my Savior, and my Redeemer. In the Name of Jesus, I bind my heart, mind, body, soul, and spirit, to the Will of God. Lord I surrender my life to You. Help me to grow as Your deciple and restore me into the person You planned for me to be. Thank You my Lord. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen!"

I struggled and struggled with faith for a long time, until one day I gave up, and prayed to God that he would just have to give me some faith, because it was nothing I could make for myself. To my amazement, he gave it, and my faith has been very strong ever since. :)

It sounds like the Lord is providentially pruning off of you relationships that might consititute competition to Himself. If this were the case, let them go in preference to God as He can freely give you other relationships that will be much healthier for you than one's which you may have over-valued at the time. Remember, God has better eyesight than we do when it comes to truly knowing people. Do not grab for a passing butterfly and and in so doing miss a whole universe of satisfaction and blessings of the Lord upon your life and your future. I couldn't find a wife for anything until, one day, I told the Lord that if He were to provide me with one I would take her sight unseen. Within a month I met my present wife. He didn't let me down.
