Then, again, goal differential might be important after all. Just ask Ecuador, who now only needs a tie with the Germans to win their group. (Of course, a win is a win and Germany 1-0 Ecuador would still give it to Germany - but we won't think about that.)

BTW, how would England like a shot at Germany in the round of 16?

I think England would like a shot at Gerrmany in the Final!

England are now debating whether to win the next match or "throw" it .......... ie, deliberately lose so as to pick a weaker team next time ........ such are the politics of Sport

Hey! Since the thread for the NHL Playoffs has really gotten many people to come around and post, I figured a world cup one would be enjoyable too, as I'm sure many of our european folk are surely paying much attention to it.

So, what team are you going for? Which team do you actually think will win in reality (... my bet is brazil, as usual)?

Personally, I'm not sure which team I am going for. I have always liked Germany, but.. they don't have a very good team this year. I liked the way Italy played today against Ghana, so, Italy may be my choice for this year. They have a good chance, their groups is rather difficult. Next saturday's game will be the best too, Italy vs. USA, how awesome!

Going against seemingly the majority of my fellow countrymen, I am actually rooting for the US. I've never been so excited in soccer, and it's kinda cool that we're watching some of it in school.

Well, it only took 173 minutes for their offense to finally show up to the Cup. Was England unable to get them all booked on the same flight? Better late than never, eh? Perhaps the American will bring their offense Saturday.

Wasn't that a joke? Funny how seriously we take silly games and silly human boundaries. How 'bout recognizing that in glory all true christians will root/barrack Jesus and not care one iota about sports or nationalities?

For some strange reason I don't think that we will abandon our love for sports in Paradise. I just don't think we will really care who win's just like I'd love to have my rickety ankles working right and my left knee fixed for the chance to defend against a player like Ronaldo (pudge and all) not because I think I'd have a chance, but just for the love of the game. My brain still knows what to do and how to play. My body just thinks "sez you."

BTW, is it just me or does Argentina look strong right now? I guess we'll find out which of these teams is a true contender as they square off in the round of 16.

And, given that the Americans have NEVER beaten Italy, we may bid them "chao" (I think that's right) tomorrow afternoon.

Yeah, 83 minutes of hearing the opponents drum in the background cause the English fans were soooo quiet is kinda telling. Since I was nice enough to watch your team do you think you will be catching a bit of the Yanks tomorrow. I think they get going somewhere aound 6:30p.m. your time.

My house has a few Italian fans, and I'm sorta rooting for the Americans, so... it's going to be rather interesting! USA!

A soccer joke ....... (I hope this doesn't offend !)





It is just before the USA v Italy match. Totti goes into the Italian changing room to find all his teammates looking a bit glum.

"What's up?" he asks.

"Well, we're having trouble getting motivated for this game. We know it's important but it's only USA. They're rubbish and we can't be bothered".

Totti looks at them and says "Well, I reckon I can beat them by myself, you lads go down the pub."

So Totti goes out to play USA by himself and the rest of the
Italian team go off for a few jars. After a few pints they wonder how the game is going, so they get the landlord to put the teletext on. A big cheer goes up as the screen Reads:
"Italy 1 - USA 0 (Totti 10minutes)". He is beating USA all by himself!

Anyway, a few pints later and the game is forgotten until someone remembers "It must be full time now, let's see how he got on". They Put the teletext on. "Result from the Stadium "Italy 1 (Totti 10 minutes) - USA 1 (McBride 89 minutes)".

They can't believe it; he has single handedly got a draw against USA!! They rush back to the Stadium to congratulate Totti. They find him in the dressing room, still in his gear, sitting with his head in his hands. He refuses to look at them. "I've let you down, I've let you down."

"Don't be daft! You got a draw against USA, all by yourself. And they only scored at the very, very end!"

"No, No, I have! I've let you down...........I got sent off after 12 minutes" ..................

Well, it's getting hot in Group E, and I found it hard to root for the Czechs today. They just didn't have it together. I was very impressed with Ghana today, it was a nailbiter. And lonely Cech worked so hard, too. I'm missing Koller.

...was that an Israeli flag during the celebration? Huh??
