Well, I did not have fibro, but I did have chronic back pain for over two years, I mean real bad burning that ruled my life. Pain, fear and worry consumed me. I had been to a othopedic surgeon, neurosurgeon, chiro, p.t, pain management, etc. I tried many treatments just like many of you have. But I got no relief. I used to go to a back message board, becuase I felt maybe surgery was the last resort. Surgery results are mixed, it seems like no one ever got pain-relief. So, one day some posted a book called Healing Back Pain, said it cured them. So I was like yeah right, I thought it was a book just like all the others, you know change the diet, do back exercises, heat and ice, blah, you know what I'm talking about. So, out of desperation of not going under the knife, I got Healing Back Pain from the library and read the book and I thought , this is the answer to my back pain. Been "healing" every since. What is so special about Sarno is that he believes that many disorders, such as fibro, chronic pain, carpal tunnel, RSI, acid reflux, tendonitis, tennis elbow, knee pain, back pain, ankle pain, etc. are caused by repressed emotions. no oblviously if there is severe traum to a body part, then there is a real injury and all pain syndromes need to be check out by a doctor, to rule out serious disease.
Why does Sarno work, why is his success rate over 95% in dealing with these syndromes, becuase he knows the cause. Doctors do not know the cause, they simply treat symptoms. Touble is, is that there are not many people willing to accept Sarno, because he goes against traditional medicine. His program is about knowledge, learning about yourself and what is causing the pain. Sarno used to be an orthopedic docotr, but he started seeing traits in his patients, that had him come to a theory. His patients had all or just some of these traits, perfectionists, drive to succeed, goodists(meanin trying to please others, and going to great lengths to do so), worriers, low-self esteem, hard on themselves, etc. When I read the book, I was reading myself, I had made a connection. Sarno believes these pressure we put on ourselves, caused us to have changes made in our bodies. I mean, have you ever worried, and got a stomach ache, headache, etc. There is a direct correlation between our minds and our bodies, and eveyone has had a symptom once in their lives. Traumatic events in people's lives also cause this pressure and rage. As these life pressure, life events accumualte, that causes a different state in the body, it affects, the muscles, tendons, nerves and ligaments.
All the parts of the body that are affected with the pain syndrome Fibromyalgia. This is hard for some to accept, but those who do get amazing results, it may take time, but it's great to know there is hope for the sufferer, it took me almost a year, but has been well worth it. You've got to be able to say to yourself, this is caused by my personality, emotions, repressed anger, etc. You have to know the cure lies with knowledge. There i nothing wrong with your body, etc. I know that sounds strange but it works. I then read Colbert's Deadly Emotions, because he believes in the Mindboy-Spirit. Sarno is not a christian, and Colbert gives examples of patients going through symptoms that get better, with knowlwedge, and submitting unto God. Wright believes, most pain syndromes and diseases have a spiritual root, like fear, anxiety and worry. I have to agree with all three men and they all make good points and have totally changed the way I think. But the most important thing they all do, is the find the cause, the root. Everyone is different and finding the cause is more introspective, you have to examine your life. Most people I know with fibro, were female, have been divoriced, driven, and wanted to please eveyone, but when someone did something wrong to them, they kept that bitterness and rage. on the inside they are hurting and angry, but on the outside they try to seem llike everything is ok, they repress emotion. I am also describing myself by the way. People will continue to have these symptoms if the root is not found out, and healed, and I know a guy named Jesus, came to this world to die for those types of things.
Sorry this is so long, but I want to make another point from Sarno. He says people can have so much emotional pain(sexually abused, verbally abused,), anger, etc. that the mind gives us physical pain, to take our minds off the emotional. From experience I can say this is true. I use to worry, put so much pressure on myself, that I made myself sick, but when I got the back pain, suddenly, I did notfeel that way becuase I was so focused on the back pain. Any way, I hope you look into this, beucase it totally changed my life, and I longer see pain the same.
