Mountain of debt
Conflicting voices here and there,
Sometimes it got just too much to bear,
Not so subtle advertising from the TV screen,
Billboards placed up high for all to see.
The message coming across has been, spend, spend, spend,
As there was money forever without end,
Credit was made so easy and freely available,
Now with circumstances changed finances are unstable.
We thought obedience was for us to try to pay our tithe,
We did not ask the Lord as to whether a purchase was wise,
Here we are in a credit crunch and there is much we cannot afford,
And we confess that we forgot all that we have comes from you Lord.
One mortgage was not enough, we had to add a second one,
A couple of credit cards run right up to the maximum,
When we were both able to work payments could be met,
But now there is difficulty finding a mortgage payment.
So like so many others, even we as Christians are in debt,
And our prayers are that our bills can be fully met,
We ask you Lord for wisdom and guidance and provision,
Forgive us for our foolishness getting us into this situation.
Teach us your ways, we long to be effectual in your Kingdom,
Yet we have not grown as we should in maturity and wisdom.
It is only now that we can see, we got it so wrong,
Humbly we come in repentance seeking financial freedom.
So let us hear your voice clearly in these matters Lord,
You have promised to meet all our needs in your Word,
But sometimes we have allowed greed to take hold.
And in the natural it would seem our house should be sold.
We know though you are no mans debtor and promises you keep,
And we can speak to our mountains and they will be moved,
So mountain of debt we ask in Jesus Name that you move,
That we Gods children might a roof over our head keep.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
I wrote this about 3 years ago, just at the beginning of the credit crunch and I had been made redundant from the Nursing Home I had worked in for years. The following year Raymond took early retirement, and we founded Disciples of Jesus Ministry, we have not had it easy but we have had our needs provided for.
