• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I started Neurontin a couple of weeks ago (in addition to Zoloft and Wellbutrin). The Zoloft is being decreased.
The first day I took Neurontin, I felt great the next day. I didnt feel negative and mean like usual. I felt like a nice person, a positive person. I was so glad I finally started a mood stabilizer.
For the past few days, I have been feeling depressed again.
maybe I shouldnt be decreasing the Zoloft yet?
And I am so tired in the mornings.
Any thoughts?

Nuerontin is for pain, I never new it for any other use. I was on 4,000 mlgrams of that and nothing helped or worked for me ( again things work different with different people as always ) but, I started getting sucicidal on that med. I got taken off right away and the feelings went away. Then, I saw a lawyer asking for people who were on or still on neurontin. I called the number and they have a law suit agaisnt that med.
Hopefully, you will be ok. Just wanted to tell you how it affected me.
GOD BLESS!!

Neurontin is an anti-convulsant and as such is used as a mood stabilizer like many other anti seizure meds (dilantin, depakote, etc) What many of us do not realize is that anti-convulsantas are also used for nerve pain. As a hospice nurse I used anticonvulsants for nerve pain quite frequently. ALWAYS talk to your doc truthfully about anything going on related to meds, meds changes and med side effects. They (your docs and pharmacists) can help you make wise decisions about what works best for you!!! Only you have the info about how your body is reacting and they have the understanding of the meds. I personally try to only change one med at a time whenever possible, but there are times you must add one and decrease another.

Give your doc a call and let 'em know what is happening and get their input and then make your own choice about what works for you and work with your doc to help yourself.

Blessings and prayers, med changes are not fun!

Wow, this sounds exactly like what I just went through. It was too soon to decrease the antidepressant. Don't wait too long before you do something about it. I mean, you want to give yourself a chance. It could just be a sad day or two. But don't let it become more than that.

Call your Dr and tell him what is going on.

Yes, mood stabilizer is an "off label" use of Neurontin. I am trying changing the times I take it. She had me taking 4 before bedtime. In the mornings at first I was sluggish but like I said before, felt better with mood. Now I am sluggish and irritable in the morning. It wears off mid day and then by evening I am very irritable.

So last night I only took 2 and will take one around mid day and the other later in the afternoon. we may have to bump the Zoloft back up to 100 mg. We are decreasing it because it kills the sex drive. Oh, she also increased my Wellbutrin at the same time she started me on Neurontin.
I hope this works out because some of the other mood stabilizers cause weight gain and I don't need that.

What do you all take for a mood stabilizer?

Doula- that is what my psych wanted to do with me as well, to see how I would do off antidepressants and only on mood stabilizers.
If I dont feel better in a few days, I will call her.

PTL!!! I also have had to split the doses of my meds out like that. I spent over 10 years on antidepressants (most before diagnosis of bp) with little effect on my depression. but stoppping them did make depression worse. I was not able to stop antidepressants until I found the right mood stabilizer for myself, then within a few months my antidepressants started triggering manias and I was able to stop antidepressants without problems-haven't been on them for many months now.

I pray that your days will continue to be good days!!!
