You’re entitled to your opinion. Plenty of people think ECT to treat depression is sick and twisted. But it works. I suspect in many peoples’ minds, gender reassignment surgery (I believe the preferred term is now gender confirmation surgery) is even higher on the sick an twisted list. But these are still medical procedures. When done for very specific indications, following strict protocols, by qualified and experienced specialists (preferably at medical school affiliated teaching hospitals) it’s no one else’s business.

Yes qualified and experienced people that commit heinous acts. Being qualified and experienced does not automatically remove you from justifiable criticism. There have been some very qualified and experienced people who have committed horrible acts upon other human beings throughout history.

Or you can remove yourself out of something , that doesn't concern you. Which abortions and gender confirmation surgery doesn't.

Kavanaugh flags a major catch in Texas anti-abortion law for conservative gun owners

Interesting:
During oral arguments in the case, Mr Kavanaugh suggested a hypothetical situation in which a liberal-led state government could write laws stating that owners or sellers of AR-15 firearms could be held liable by private citizens in state courts.

“Anyone who sells an AR-15 is liable to any private citizen for a million dollars," Mr Kavanaugh said, describing the hypothetical law.

He then asked Texas’s solicitor general, Judd Stone, whether such a law would be subject to pre-enforcement review, meaning affected persons or agencies would have the chance to ask a court to halt its enforcement, before it was implemented. Mr Stone admitted that such a law could be implemented without such an opportunity for affected parties under the precedent set by allowing Texas’s law to stand.

Kavanaugh hit on an important point: the Texas legislature might be patting itself on the back for their abortion ban, but how long before someone smarter than them uses it elsewhere on something they don't want banned?

This is why men should remove themselves from discussion of abortion. They know nothing.
I once had a female apprentice who didn't know what a fallopian tube was.

Private medical decisions are still none of your business. And definitely no business of government.

Abortion should concern everyone since it involves a person who has no voice.

Gender surgery, well as an adult that IS your business. It's none of my business what you do as an adult. I can have an opinion about it but ultimately have have no say in what you do as an adult. However, I believe that children that seek that should wait until they are an adult before making a life altering decision. Because we ALL know kids brains are not developed enough to fully understand the consequences of their actions.

I think it is because it involves another human being who has no voice in whether or not they are killed. That is definitely our business.

No, abortion doesn't .
A fetus doesn't have a voice at all , and shouldn't.

No, It's none of this is your business. It's time to mind your own business. And let doctors, children and parents deal with this.

Wow, we don't allow children to eat whatever they want, go to bed whenever they want, smoke whatever they want, drink whatever they want, go to school whenever they want, abuse their bodies however they want, watch whatever they want on television, go wherever they want. We don't prosecute kids the same as adults. But when it comes to life altering surgery when their brains are not fully formed and by golly, they can make that decision. That's fully okay.

No that's child abuse.

I once had a female apprentice who didn't know what a fallopian tube was.

So she probably didn't know that conception occurs in the uterus, not the fallopian tubes. When this does occur it is an ectopic pregnancy; the safe recourse is a termination.

Abortion should concern everyone since it involves a person who has no voice.

This begs the question; the personhood of a foetus is at the heart of this issue. It is where most of us disagree with 'pro-life' advocates. A foetus is not a person.

How does "not having a voice" make it our (as in yours and mine) business? I mean, we kill people all the time, especially in Texas:

I still do not understand how to reconcile the principle that the unborn are persons when it comes to abortion but not when a woman suffers a miscarriage.

By that principle to be consistent shouldn't there be a funeral for the unborn' person'?

Hmm. I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. We do have laws against children smoking or drinking. We have child labor laws. Etc. As a society we do impose rules about children. I don't see why preventing children from having sex change operations would be any different.

Well, quite. It is the children's and their parents' business, not yours or mine. And in the UK at least, children may drink and smoke at home with parental permission. The alcohol and tobacco laws apply to public places. Is it not the same in America?

There seems to be an itch to put a stop to individual liberties in the Land of the Free. Interfering with women's bodily functions is just the start!

She was demonstrating the same level of ignorance that you asserted should prompt men remove themselves from the discussion of abortion.

I disagree that it is a person. The law disagrees that it is a person. Religious doctrine has historically disagreed it is a person.

Once you get past the hurdle of why we should consider a fetus a person we can move into bodily integrity.

Hmm. The ignorant are probably most eloquent when keeping silent.
