  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The problem with the 1.c4 English (as opposed to transposing via 1.Nf3 or 1.d4) is that Black has too many ways of equalizing early and even getting an advantage. 1...e5 and 1...c5 offer Black sufficent compensation for being Black ;)

Favourite defence: The Center Counter (Scandanavian)- for once the black player gets to call the shots.
Hmmm... Black gets to call the shots, until his initiative runs out... then he realizes that he has a bad position and is struggling for equality.

If you want to play an opening where Black gets lasting initiative, play a Sicilian ;)

The benko gambit begins...[font=Arial, Arial, Helvetica]
1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 b5

it gives black a lot of options, but you have to be up on the variations because your king's bishop can get stuck if white advances too quickly. I haven't enough posts to link to a URL, but a search should do you well.

Fvaourite opening as white: Ruy Lopez- unoriginal, but solid

Hmmmm. How does black gain the initiative in the Scandinavian? Are you thinking of the gambit lines?

It's all about the Danish Gambit:

White-----Black
1. e2-e4 1. e7-e5
2. d2-d4 2. e5xd4
3. c2-c3 3. d4xc3
4. Bf1-c4 4. c3xb2
5. Bc1xb2

In this position, White has open lines and two deadly Bishops. White's next move is usually Ng1-f3 or Qd1-h5.
If Black plays an immediate 5...d7-d5, he can usually hold out for a draw. If Blank doesn't gambit back the pawn, then usually White will win if he knows what he's doing.
