My favorite period is medieval/early Renaissance, so that would include composers such as Hildegard of Bingen, Philip de Vitry, Alfonso X, Gilles Binchois, John Dunstaple, and Guillaume Dufay. Anybody who says that music was "naive" really ought to take a look at a score from that period: those folks knew EXACTLY what they were doing, and came up with some really remarkable achievements!

As far as pieces of music -- I have favorite pieces of music all the way from 1100 C.E. to the late 20th century, and everything in between. I may love the "Canciones de la Virgen Maria" by Alfonso X; but I also love the late Beethoven piano sonatas, the chamber music of Brahms, the piano music of Ravel, and the choral works of Arvo Pärt.
 Glad to find someone else who likes Hildegard of Bingen!!!
Ive liked her music for over 10 years now.
Like you, I too enjoy music from 1100 a.d. to 20th century. Theres just too much great music out there!!!
I enjoy all of Mozart as well as Chopin, Paganini and Vivaldi.

if i couldve chose two ive wouldve chose baroque and romantic, but since we could only choose one, i chose baroque, just becuase this is sort of where everything began, like in the early baroque, the chord changes change form the way they did it in the renasaince and opera, concerto form, oratorio's and more string music was created. there were also some amzing music, like backs double violin concerto, brandenburg concerto's, handels oratorio's(samson, the messaih and whatever else there was).who could forget purcell also.

Baroque is my obsession, and also music in the times from 15 century to renaissence.i think it reflects the
unparalleled height of humanism art and science of expression of emotion and expresiveness with means of
applied human physical, psychological ingenuities on classical instruments. But there is still an unmeasurable amount of music awaiting rediscovery in obscurity.for this reason I stop my attention to music of libertism and romanticism, approx later than 1770s.

I hate it when some people with ****** libertism bashes early music for its historical position in service to nobles.
However,,its exquisite art of relentless effusion of violent em0tion and unbridled passion continues killing and killing softly, And you just can not resist it!

I like it all. I play classical guitar, well on my electric at the moment, and I love to play it all. I also like to take the classical guitar technique and apply it to modern worship songs. My wife's voice sounds amazing over it.
