  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I like bunches of them, but as you want only one, then it MUST be:

Spider-Man.

Stan lee broke through a bunch of superhero "rules" with Spider-Man.

Spidey: a teenager, was the main hero and not a sidekick
Spidey: didn't always save the girl. (Ground breaking issue when Gwen Stacy died.)
Spidey: not liked, but feared by many.. including his own Aunt!
Spidey: had real world problems.

Did you see the preview for "Spider-Man 2" yet?
Gonna be another big hit at the box office!

As for favorite BOOK, I'm going to say "Thunderbolts", especially issues 1-12, written by Kurt Busiek. (I have 1-75 and await March 2004 for the follow-up 6-issue miniseries to be co-written by Fabian Nicieza and Kurt Busiek. It is titled "Avengers vs. Thunderbolts" and Hawkeye is right in the middle of things.

My favorites are many:

My favorite as a child was definitely Spiderman. I was won over by his witty banter. He never came across as an over the top hero and I liked that.

As I got older I began to appreciate Iron Man. Here was not only a hero, but a man fighting his own personal demons as well as Insane Villians. Plus his suit was way cool!

Iceman of the X-men deserves a spot on my little list. He is the epitome of untapped potential...and an incredible sense of light heartedness and fun, I could always relate to the guy.

I would say Wolverine and Spiderman, but it's been years since I've collected and/or read anything from any comic book company. I did, however, keep all my comic books, bagged, boarded and boxed. Only over 3,000 of em but I didn't and couldn't buy everything. Collected from late 70's until late 80's, but I did get a ton of back issues when I did collect. I don't plan on collecting or reading them anymore. The comics are now just for investment purposes.

However, if you had asked who had the best stories, I would have to say the initial run of Punisher, issues 1 - 100 of Conan the Barbarian and just about anything released from Dark Horse at the time.

I'm all Captain America. When I get the posts to make my own avatar, I'll use him.

I've heard that there was a comic series where he beging to turn against the U.S. and actually defends some terrorists, and if that's true then I can 't decide to get rid of him in disgust or recognize him for what he was when he was first created.
