Here is another one that I love, and it's rarely sung anymore.

A Glorious Church
Do you hear them coming, brother,
Thronging up the steeps of light,
Clad in glorious shining garments,
Blood washed, garments pure and white?

(chorus)
’Tis a glorious church without spot or wrinkle,
Washed in the blood of the Lamb;
’Tis a glorious church without spot or wrinkle,
Washed in the blood of the Lamb.

Do you hear the stirring anthems,
Filling all the earth and sky,
’Tis a grand, victorious army,
Lift its banner up on high!

Never fear the clouds of sorrow,
Never fear the storms of sin.
We shall triumph on the morrow,
Even now our joys begin.

Wave the banner, shout His praises,
For our victory is nigh!
We shall join our conqu’ring Savior,
We shall reign with Him on high!

Wow, there are so many hymns I love. I like a lot of the old ones... the ones with amazing words and harmonies that are no longer sung the way they should be :(

I don't remember if I have posted in this thread yet or not, but my latest favourite hymn has been "How Great Thou Art". I sing it all the time, often while walking to school, etc.

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Then sings my soul, my saviour God to thee
How great thou art, how great thou art
Then sings my soul, my saviour God to thee
How great thou art, how great thou art.

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze

And when I think that God, his son not sparing
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art!

This, of course, is one of the most beloved hymns ever written. It was originally written in Swedish, with 3 verses, by Rev. Carl Boberg in about 1886, and was titled O Store Gud (in English it would be "Our Great God"). S.K. Hine brought it to America, but the hymn was not accepted--not until Hine added that wonderful 4th stanza.

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art!

Hmm... Interesting that it was not accepted without the last verse. I wonder why!
Although I do like that verse, I think my favourite one is the first one :)
I can't answer that-but the song is still under copyright!

Personally, my favorite verse is the 3rd.

I remember sitting in church with my family that was when my brothers and I were still in our school years sunday 6pm service. Every sunday we seemed to be always sitting in the same spot up the front and sitting so close to the choir. I was sitting on an angle that you could watch the pianist moving their hands up and down the key board.

I remember this one hymn EAGLES WINGS with all it's key notes itwas a soft yet soothing melody.
A few lines from the hymn:
Chorus:
I will raise you up on eagles wings
and he will hold you; hold you in the palm of his hands.
Verse:
Upon his wings,he will raise you up
least you dash your foot against a stone

And can it be that i should gain
an interest in the saviours blood,
died he for me, who caused his pain
for me who him to death persued
Amazing love, how can it be
that Thou my God should die for me?

To God be the Glory, great things he has done!
So loved he the world that he gave us his Son,
Who yeilded his life in atonement for sin,
And open the life gat that all may go in.

Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord!
Let the earth hear his voice
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord!
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give him the glory - great things he has done!

Teach me Thy way, O Lord, teach me Thy way!
Thy guiding grace afford, teach me Thy way!
Help me to walk aright, more by faith, less by sight;
Lead me with heav’nly light, teach me Thy way!

When I am sad at heart, teach me Thy way!
When earthly joys depart, teach me Thy way!
In hours of loneliness, in times of dire distress,
In failure or success, teach me Thy way!

When doubts and fears arise, teach me Thy way!
When storms o’erspread the skies, teach me Thy way!
Shine through the cloud and rain, through sorrow, toil and pain;
Make Thou my pathway plain, teach me Thy way!

Long as my life shall last, teach me Thy way!
Where’er my lot be cast, teach me Thy way!
Until the race is run, until the journey’s done,
Until the crown is won, teach me Thy way!

This is the hymn I have one verse of in my signature. :)

O Sacred Head Now Wounded

O sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down,
Now scornfully surrounded with thorns, Thine only crown;
How pale Thou art with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn!
How does that visage languish, which once was bright as morn!

What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered, was all for sinners’ gain;
Mine, mine was the transgression, but Thine the deadly pain.
Lo, here I fall, my Savior! ’Tis I deserve Thy place;
Look on me with Thy favor, vouchsafe to me Thy grace.

Men mock and taunt and jeer Thee, Thou noble countenance,
Though mighty worlds shall fear Thee and flee before Thy glance.
How art thou pale with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn!
How doth Thy visage languish that once was bright as morn!

Now from Thy cheeks has vanished their color once so fair;
From Thy red lips is banished the splendor that was there.
Grim death, with cruel rigor, hath robbed Thee of Thy life;
Thus Thou hast lost Thy vigor, Thy strength in this sad strife.

My burden in Thy Passion, Lord, Thou hast borne for me,
For it was my transgression which brought this woe on Thee.
I cast me down before Thee, wrath were my rightful lot;
Have mercy, I implore Thee; Redeemer, spurn me not!

What language shall I borrow to thank Thee, dearest friend,
For this Thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end?
O make me Thine forever, and should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never outlive my love to Thee.

My Shepherd, now receive me; my Guardian, own me Thine.
Great blessings Thou didst give me, O source of gifts divine.
Thy lips have often fed me with words of truth and love;
Thy Spirit oft hath led me to heavenly joys above.

Here I will stand beside Thee, from Thee I will not part;
O Savior, do not chide me! When breaks Thy loving heart,
When soul and body languish in death’s cold, cruel grasp,
Then, in Thy deepest anguish, Thee in mine arms I’ll clasp.

The joy can never be spoken, above all joys beside,
When in Thy body broken I thus with safety hide.
O Lord of Life, desiring Thy glory now to see,
Beside Thy cross expiring, I’d breathe my soul to Thee.

My Savior, be Thou near me when death is at my door;
Then let Thy presence cheer me, forsake me nevermore!
When soul and body languish, oh, leave me not alone,
But take away mine anguish by virtue of Thine own!

Be Thou my consolation, my shield when I must die;
Remind me of Thy passion when my last hour draws nigh.
Mine eyes shall then behold Thee, upon Thy cross shall dwell,
My heart by faith enfolds Thee. Who dieth thus dies well.

Here is my favorite Christmas carol. I guess I got it from my mom, as it was her favorite too.

O Holy Night

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here came the wise men from Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,
In all our trials born to be our Friend!
He knows our need—to our weakness is no stranger.
Behold your King; before Him lowly bend!
Behold your King; before Him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His Gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy Name!
Christ is the Lord! O praise His name forever!
His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim!
His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim!

It's that third verse that I really love: "Christ is the Lord! O praise His name forever!" :amen:

I understand the need for contemporary, but when my soul needs to be lifted from the cares of life, the hurt and pain that life sometimes brings....I need a hymn.....Tis So Sweet To Trust in Jesus....It Is Well.....His Eye Is On the Sparrow.....Turn your Eyes Upon Jesus....I could go on and on....I thank God for those lyrics that bring new liife to a dry and thirsty land....
