More so in America than anywhere else in the world there are massive amounts of overweight people. Most of them here in America also subscribe to some faction of the Christian faith.
Now to me this seems hypocritical. Not only does the bible clearly condemn the acts and mindset it takes to get fat (greed, glotony... ect) but I see no difference between an overweight person and someone who would stand in front of a child dieing of thirst with a bucket of water taunting them with it.
How many children die each day of starvation... simply because they do not have enough money to buy food or there is no food in their nation. Over 1/3rd of the world population lives under the poverty line, they do not get enough food to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Yet these "Christians" can sit there and eat more food then their body needs. It is greed to it's maximum in my opinion and can not understand why instead of "supersizeing" they don't maybe save that money up and use it for something actually worthwhile, saving a child's life instead of just adding insult to those starving childreds tragity.
It also on a totaly other path of topic seems to be desecrating the our body that God created for us. I just can not see how anyone can justify such behavior with a Christian belief and allow themselves to become fat. Losing weight and/or not getting fat is not complicated at all.
I don't condone smoking, it is something i struggle with. How ever the mentality behind smoking is far different than that which this thread is about.
Furthermore, smoking has no health benefits whatsoever and is something that is taken up for non medical reasons - usually to look cool in front of your mates. Food has health benefits; we HAVE to eat to stay alive and to provide our bodies with nourishment.
hhhmmm.. Well this is what Jesus says
Mat 15:11"It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."
Fat food is poor food, but not only poor are fat.
People are fat because they are either genetically predisposed (some pacific Islands for example where people are naturally large or there are people who are naturally skinny) or are having some medical condition (water retention or having worms) or are simply lazy and do not want to do anything or the combination of the above.
In general (normal) conditions however:
It is question of mathematics - exchange of calories - if you eat 4000 calories per day and you use 3000 you will store 1000 - 1lb of fat is 7000 calories (on average depending on sex, age and other parameters).
In order to burn calories body need to increase calorie exchange and that is it.
I do not care who you are if you eat to much calories and you do not burn them you will get fat if you use more than what you store you will loose fat
The US, Western Europe and Australia are leaders in getting people fat it is an epidemic, it is a disease and that is it the cure is to start running, walking, eating healthy.
I will not judge anyone about whether they are good or bad Christians if they are fat God forbid, who am I to judge?
We all are bad whether we are fat or skinny, fit or unfit but the OP is asking some valid questions (in a typical MezzaMortian way).
This is almost comical. I no longer see the need to get offended by MM. This thread is a joke. I fail to see however the sin lust in eating. Please explain in detail. It makes no sense.
And smoking isn't a loss of control as well?
I really hope you're a vegan. Otherwise, do you really have any room to talk? So much food that could feed so many is wasted to fatten up pigs and cows so that a few could get their jollies in the taste of meat.
If it bothered me so much that others were buying more food than they need, it would also bother me that food that could feed a starving third world family was instead going toward plumping up a single heifer so that I could have that juicy cheeseburger.
I cannot see how any Christian can justify such behavior and care more about their tastebuds than about starving children. Not eating meat isn't complicated at all.

but have you considered that a lot of people may comfort eat, to cope with emotional upset, stress, bullying, divorce, or any other of our modern day stresses?
And as you can't possibly know all this just by looking at someone, to say that they are fat because they are greedy
Yes but does that make it better than overeating? Isn't addiction of form of lust? It doesn't matter if it's considered taboo or not, the point is that it's unhealthy and unbalanced, as is overeating. That's why I think that we shouldn't jduge anyone because we all have imbalanced personalities...In some places being overweight isn't considered to be taboo either.
What do you plan to do to fix this "problem"?

No doubt western society and American culture have their part to play and part of the blame. But people still have to take some responsibility for their actions. It is very rare that someone is obese due to circumstances completely beyond their control.

Im not a doctor, I havent even taken a science class since soft more year of high school so I really have no idea about any of that. Though from my limited understanding cholesterol is what clogs your lines into your heart that causes heart attacks.

I have to disagree here, I feel that most people who are overweight are so because they neglect themselves and their diet and put limited, if any effort into maintain a healthy lifestyle.
No, you are going on how things "seem" to you . .
Of course there are a lot of people who try and struggle with weight, but they seem like a minority.

Of course, how ever it is not hard to advoid most of those. If someone really wants to they can live a perfectly healthy life off fruits, ventables, non-processed meats and natural carbs.
We dont need the processed foods, we dont need the articifacal add ins of course everyone likes them.
I do not suggest we get rid of them,
I simply think that people should be able to display some self control.
I see people in the grocery store in the line up standing there obviously overweight, with children that are over weight and they are loading Soda, Chips, Ice cream, foods with high amounts of trans fats, fryed foods, processed foods
these are the people I speak of because they are induldeing their desires not making any attempt to moderate their intake.
Sense of humour does help dont it?
Now if your brother offends with a second Big mac, while the world stands eat not a second
If he desire to smite thee in thy face with your burger, toss him your second for the extra blow
Peace
