• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
 • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

(God is so pure and powerful that if unprepared was to find himself in unscreened presence of Him - he won't be able to remain there without help from God. Actually, in our present state we would have to run if God was to reveal Himself to us in all His glory - so by His mercy He screens us from His power.)

I have been wondering: Why does the Orthodox fast simply consist of abstaining from meat, dairy and other animal products? In the Bible, fasting meant abstaining from all food, because Jesus admonishes those hypocrites who "disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast". Simply abstaining from meat and dairy wouldn't leave any external sign, but not eating anything would. This kind of fasting is followed by Jews up till this day on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). The Muslim fast consists of not eating or drinking anything between dawn and sunset.

So why is the Orthodox fast different? Why such a break with tradition? Shouldn't it be called "abstinence" rather than fasting?

In the Coptic Orthodox tradition we fast without eating anything( food or water )and then we eat food without any meat ,diary or milk

That's interesting, and thanks for the link. I bookmarked it. We have a lot of Armenians in this area. I always wondered why there are so many. Now I'm beginning to understand.

The Armenian genocide is similar to the history of the Holocaust in many respects. Both people adhere to an ancient religion. Both were religious minorities of their respective states. Both have a history of persecution. Both have new democracies. Enemies surround both. Both are talented and creative minorities who have been persecuted out of envy and obscurantism.

Ok, Factual Error #1:

the article said:
The Turks just destroyed these civilizations and unfortunately did not even try to take advantage of its accomplishments.

Huh? It is extremely well established by historians that the Greeks of western Asia Minor, who had been part of the Empire since its first century, were a well-established, well-integrated group in Ottoman society, contributing greatly within the fields of trade and imperial administration.

Should I list more factual errors?

Philothei, I just saw the post in the other thread about your grandmother having been part of the Smyrnan massacre. Would it be meaningless to offer a condoleance? In any case, I think you should note that the Ottoman Empire is not the same as the (Kemalist ) Turkish Republic, which did that. The Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Republic might all just like murderous Turks to you, but they are worlds apart in ideology. Really, I despise the Kemalists too, probably as much as anyone here does.

I do not need your sympathy and condolences mean nothing to me. I am not a Turk or Muslim fanatic either. it is just plain fact that Ottoman empire did nothing to save the christians from the extremists... they just tolerated the christians... If the Ottomans were little angels how come all these genocide took place silently and genisari practice started under them? Do not tell me you do not know about the gennisari practice of taking 10,000 young children and make them into Turkish soldiers every 5-10 years? want links ... I can get them for you and btw do not quote from encyclodepias are you first grade of something?

Oh, I am serious. But as for respect, you'll have to elaborate on that one.

Respect?
1. Came here as janissary first - in most cases Orthodox Christian child taken by force from his parents and by force converted to islam to be made a foot soldier.

2. "nestoj, get stuffed" - ring a bell...

3. "My bravado is solely aimed at those who are dissing the Islamic fast claiming that the Orthodox is truer somehow" - you come to TAW and tell us we don't have a right to place Orthodox Christianity before islam...

I know i am not going to persuade you so keep your Pro-ottoman propaganda to yourself since you cannot persuade anyone here either...

I already showed you one error in that article. You ignored my refutation. I can show you several more errors in that article, if you keep on insisting it is somehow accurate.
