Faster than the Wind!

Traveling faster than the wind doesn't seem so incredible; until we start talking about using the wind, to directly propel us faster than the wind.

A UCLA Physics Professor bet Derek Muller $10,000 that using the wind to travel downwind, faster than the wind, is physically impossible. He settled up when he lost that bet.

However, exactly the same subject and post #9 in his thread contains the video you have posted. It does seem to make this thread redundant.

I do believe that the video you posted is in my thread now too. Verisatium (Muller) made both of those videos. The second has a better explanation than the first.

EDIT: Yep, I double checked. I posted this second video Thursaday.

I was in on this debate over 12 years ago and I was originally a denier. I eventually found out that I was wrong and openly admitted it.

I posed both the original Veritasium video and the follow up that you posted. A third video that inadvertently had an acronym that would not be allowed seems to have caused the whole thread to disappear. You can see some clips of that video in the video that you posted. I have been in on this discussion for years and may be able to answer any questions that you have. I am also going to see if there is a version of the video that I posted that would pass muster here. It was posted more than once, but the banned acronym might be in both of them.

EDIT: Rats. All of the videos that show the Blackbird charging through a cloud of dust have the acronym in their title. But there is one that shows the streamers going backwards on the cart and a flag on the ground No nasty title. No spoken audio so it is definitely okay:
