I'm already having a blast. The little adjustments to gameplay like ironsights and hardcore mode are fantastic, I'm finding myself resorting to creeping around and sniping a lot more in order to survive. Not many signs of serious bugs so far, thankfully.

My one piece of advice to anyone who's played the original Fallout games - don't always keep the radio on, as you'll miss out on the ambient music, which is much, much better this time, as well as reprising some of the original soundtrack too (and as you enter one particular town, an infamously creepy track from Fallout 1 starts to play ;) )

I did install a few mods in Fallout 3 to require eating, drinking, etc. I will most likely be playing on Hardcore mode.

It's definitely made me a lot less explosives-happy than I was in (unmodded) F3, as queueing up two grenade throws on a fast enemy in VATS is a good way to have your character light a stick of dynamite and toss it right at the feet of both the slavering monstrosity attempting to chew your face off and themself. Doctor's bags aren't cheap :sigh:

I didn't make too much use of explosives in FO3. I used them every so often, but I was more about the giant hammer. It was good for saving ammo, especially when trekking across the wasteland and getting attacked by those stupid flies. It was also good for "farming." By "farming" I mean wandering into fields full of mutated cows, clobbering them to death, and taking their meat. Very cheap way to stay full without buying actual food.

I started NV a couple days ago. Seems good, though I think I prefer "Fallout 3" for sentimental reasons. I'm probably going to put it on hold though and tackle "Fable 3" and "Sims 3."

Fallout 3 was kind of interesting because it's set in the DC area, which is where I grew up. Wandering through the destroyed ruins of my hometown was kind of strange. :)

Bethesda Software's headquarters is actually in the same area too.

Yeah, I mean I do like the desert setting of NV, it's a bit closer to the feel of the original two games. That said, I miss wandering round a ruined city, seeing as The Strip isn't really that big.* Sure, it was contrived as heck with the subway tunnels and arbitrary piles of road-blocking rubble everywhere, but that's not exactly unlikely in a ruined city. Having The Strip made up of three tiny maps just makes it seem small, but DC felt huge.

I can't say I've played any games involving my neck of the woods (non-descript Irish countryside) but I remember being a little weirded out going to Battery Park after playing Deus Ex. Now games like Mafia 2 and GTA4 make me very nostalgic for hanging out in New York.

*Although I <3 Mr. House.
