Faith is the ability to maintain conviction and trust when fear or temptation tries to breach in.
According to the Testaments, doubt is not an antonym of faith. It rather comes after the fact as a means of reconciliation of fears and temptations.
That is, what the Bible describes as something such as 'intellectualism' is simply a mechanism of denial. The Apostle Paul states that God is self-evident.

Only self-evident to those that believe it is self-evident, to be clear.

I feel that we are not made to know if we have an afterlife or if Jesus came back from the dead, and if we did know those things there would be little mystery left to creation. We would no longer have faith and Religion would be more like a history lesson or some scientific facts. Instead we find ourselves not knowing these great mysteries and we can hope for Heaven and fear Hell, after all we really do not know for sure if we do have an after life or not.

Maybe it is better to have a belief based on a good argument that makes more sense to you along the lines of Evolution and the Bible is just a collection of stories, but I feel it is better to have hope. It is more authentic to our existence. For thousands of years humans have prayed and believed in the divinity of Jesus Christ or Allah or a different deity, so it is really going against the grain to not have any hope for an after life or belief in a higher power at all. We still have hope!

What you "feel" misses the mark. The "hope" you "feel" is "better" is blind hope. You don't understand the Faith of a born-again Believer in Jesus as Savior, and that for eternity, from the precise split-second of one's confession. Romas 10:8-13 is a great insight into your "feelings."

I don't see the comparison. There are demonstrable hazards for those examples that you gave. In what way can you carry that analogy to belief - or disbelief - in gods?

God's Holy Spirit has illustrated hazards, and the show The Doctors will cover fill in the details for you each weekday:
  • Lust – to have an intense desire or need: “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28).

  • Gluttony – excess in eating and drinking: “for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags” (Proverbs 23:21).

  • Greed - excessive or reprehensible acquisitiveness: “Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more” (Ephesians 4:19).

  • Laziness – disinclined to activity or exertion: not energetic or vigorous: “The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway” (Proverbs 15:19).

  • Wrath – strong vengeful anger or indignation: “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Proverbs 15:1)

  • Envy – painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage: “Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” (1 Peter 2:1-2).

  • Pride - quality or state of being proud – inordinate self esteem: “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).

And what has this to do with belief - or disbelief - in gods, when you are unable to demonstrate that they exist?

The list I've gotten from you is less helpful, so God wins.
Beneficial results win over everything else.

If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

If all you have is a telescope, an outer planetary rover, a satellite, molecular physics, and relativity, everything still looks like a nail.
