Yesturday my friend Lachelle called me and told me she needed some help writing a paper for school. The subject was on fait. In the paper you had to discuess your feeling on " do you choose your own fait or is it already planned out?" My opinion is that God had has a plan for everyone, although it is up to us weather we follow his plan or not. So in a way its planned but really its not because God will not intervene with free will. Therefore I believe that you choose your own fait. What do you think??

The Dictionary.com definition of fate:

The supposed force, principle, or power that predetermines events.
The inevitable events predestined by this force.
A final result or consequence; an outcome.
Unfavorable destiny; doom.
Fates Greek & Roman Mythology. The three goddesses, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, who control human destiny.

Therefore I'd have to say "fate" is not a suitable word to describe the relationship between God's will and His children's response by our obedience or straying.

Fate says that everything is mapped out for us, and we are powerless puppets of the gods or some other force.

God says we have a mind and will to decide how to act, and that He will lead and help us.

God allows us to sometimes go the wrong way.
He also sometimes intervenes by stopping us, or helping us out, or by letting us find out the hard way.

But He is also able to bring out the best when we turn to Him for help.

Even in bad situations, when all may not be well, He works through our circumstances to bring about something that is ultimately for good.

Note, he doesn't say a bad thing is really good, but He releases the potential for good within the confines of the bad situation.
Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
That's redemption.

He also leads His children to do good things which he has planned for us to do, but still we choose; do we obey or not?
Eph.2:10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

God bless, Susana

I'm curious if anyone knows of any biblical references to 'fate' as it were... or God planning our lives out etc etc?

There is no mention of "fate" in the Bible.

I don't believe it to be a Christian concept, (see post #2.)

However, many, many times God explains that He is watching, leading, encouraging us towards His plans.
He also says that he knows how it will turn out.
I find that all very reassuring!

Here's a lovely example:

"All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be."

Psalm 139:16

God knew, even before I was conceived, what would happen all through my lifetime.

That is different from Him causing every detail to happen regardless of my own actions.
I am responsible for those. As Fieldmouse says; we can listen and be obedient, or not.

But God knows before it happens which we will choose each time.

Blessings, Susana
