Ok so today I tried to fast in the first time of my life.
I failed horribly, really horribly.
At 15:00 or so, I couldnt take it anymore.
Ate a waffle lol haha. and after that I readed on the internet that eating mangos will give u energy. so I ate one. BIG mistake, my hunger was impossible to stop now. And I started to eat sandwiches etc.

I feel so ashamed now, not only against my mentor. But against god alot.
I had no idea I had so less willpower.

Next friday, I wanna start fasting again. Can anyone give me some tips
Because I want to pray, and read the NT. But I had no energy left. It felt kinda pointless too.

Fasting usually is resorted to out of a strong sense of need . It is rather drastic in nature , and therefore is often something undertaken when something is desperately needed . ( As when other means of seeking change / healing / deliverance have not been successful ).

If someone doesn't have such sense , or such reason for fasting , it's likely they won't be able to endure .

Generally , praying and reading Scripture , does not require fasting .

If you truly want to experience what it's like to fast , I'd suggest finding something you strongly sense is desperately needed , as the prayerful objective for the fast . This can be something in your own life , the life of another / others , or a combination of these .

I'd also suggest that you focus on praying and studying Scripture without trying to fast at the same time , at least until you have either more experience with fasting , or a greater sense of a desperate need for doing so .

And May The Lord Be Pleased !

Good advice.

OP - Don't be so down on yourself, you'll do better next time.

I may look at fasting differently than some. I fast something I really like such as coffee - sometimes for weeks. Or fast breads, meats, and sweets. If you don't like those things then it wouldn't be a fast. Or I fast for blocks of time - from 6 to 6. Also, sometimes I fast other things besides food such as television. I've found out taking that time and spending it with Him is much better.

I think you're just starting and like everything Bible related, it takes time to become good at what you're doing. Just be glad that you tried! Don't think you slandered God in any way. Just keep trying and keep Growing in His Holy name. :):amen:

This will sound ridiculous, but is true. My wife still, at least a decade later, will not let me forget the time that I decided to fast for a day (and pray etc) on account of her poor health at the time.

At some point she walked into the lounge and glared at me, and I kind of stared back, "What???" Then realised I'd stuck my feet up to watch a game of rugby on telly and had started devouring a bag of potato crisps. I'd had simply not even noticed what I was doing.

So don't feel too bad.

You are not a failure. God's love for you is not based on your performance or behavior. He cannot love you less.

If you choose to fast, a friend of mine recommended start small. Seek God and ask Him. My children even hear God telling them to fast from meat or to fast from bread for a day.

I fast when I hear Him calling me to a fast. One day I heard Him say 3 days and then I opened my Bible to the book of Esther on the exact page where she called the people to a three day fast. I did it.

May God bless your efforts.

For years I kept saying I would fast, but when supper time came around I just could not resist. Then there were times I made it past the first day, but without any break for food it felt like the same moment continued on and I could not endure.

Years later, I had some deep repentance to do for some years of backsliding. To my surprise I found that I was able to fast for about two weeks, I think, and I know it's not something I could have done on my own, without the Holy Spirit.

If you are having trouble, there is some reason. You are either not devoted enough, there is something you are not getting, or the Holy Spirit is not leading you to fast at this time. Remember that you can do nothing on your own, and there is nothing you can't do when it is the will of God, through Christ, with the leadership of the Spirit. Learn to see the difference between your own actions, ideas, and what you are given of the Spirit.

Try reading the book "Fasting and Eating for Health, A Medical Doctor's Program for Conquering Disease by Dr. Joel Fuhrman"

It will teach you all about how to fast successfully. I did an eleven day water fast successfully. Knowing what is happening and what you are doing and the ifs, ans and buts of it helps a lot.
