I was aiming to show how the farmers who choose to make their stock suffer are doing so to maximise their profit, but that their market would not suffer nor their profit be worthless if they were to afford some necessary comfort to their stock. I was also drawing attention to the idea that the ones who buy ethical meat are willing to pay for it regardless of the price, and when that is exploited as it is with organic produce, then it makes the option less available to those who might care a bit, but who also need to make their money go far enough.

OK, thanks. In my opinion, the exploitation of animals is wrong and completely unnecessary. As I have stated, Americans get twice as much protein as they need, and none of their protein needs to come from animal products. It is found in every whole plant food, such as apples, celery and brown rice. Saturated fat, another needed nutrient, is also found in every whole plant food. And vegan diets are cheaper anyway.

Yup. The argument that we "need" meat is a very weak one. Most people choose to eat meat for the taste, not for the nutritional value.

One reason I stopped going to church was that I have strong animal welfare beliefs and it was a non issue in my experience with other Christians. Youth groups were doing sausage sizzles, having meet ups at McDonald's etc. It goes against my beliefs.
