Trump said the investigations of two Republican congressmen began under Obama.

The jumping-off point for the Collins insider-trading investigation was a phone call that began months after Obama left office.

The start date of Hunter’s investigation is a bit trickier. A congressional watchdog looked into campaign finance allegations prior to Trump’s presidency, and some of the misconduct he’s since been indicted for also predates the 2016 presidential election.

But the first public reports that Hunter was under criminal investigation appear to have surfaced in March 2017, during Trump’s presidency.

What if we replace "investigations" with "surveillance"?

And what if the "surveillance" included all other Republican congressmen as well?

Is the article saying that the phone call didn't happen until months after Obama left office, or that the investigation didn't begin until then?

Also, who intercepted the phone call, and on what legal basis?

Also, was there surveillance of Collins' communications and trades, by foreign entities (e.g. GCHQ) under Obama which secretly fed the info to him and his top aides, to be added to a dirt "dossier" on Collins?

Who made the allegations against Hunter under Obama? And based on what source?

Also, why are Hunter and Collins being charged only now, instead of when the evidence was obtained?

Could Hunter and Collins being charged now be a warning to all other Republican congressmen that dirt on them was also collected under Obama, and that it could be weaponized against them at any time, especially if the collecting of dirt under Obama is ever seriously investigated by Congressional oversight and intelligence committees?

Wrong again.

Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine, whose 50th district includes a large swath of East County San Diego, is under investigation by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ethics into possible ethics violations, it was announced Thursday.


The chairman and ranking member of the Committee on Ethics “have jointly decided to extend the matter regarding Representative Duncan Hunter,” a statement Thursday from the House Committee on Ethics read.

The investigation follows an inquiry transmitted to the Committee by the Office of Congressional Ethics on Aug. 31, according to the statement.

“The ethics panel did not disclose the nature of the investigation, but a Washington-based watchdog group filed a complaint last spring alleging that Hunter improperly used campaign funds to pay for tens of thousands of dollars in personal expenses such as trips to Hawaii and Italy and tuition for Hunter’s school-age children,” the Associated Press reported.
