  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One of the best movies ever?

That's a little much
Maybe for you. But not for me. And I do watch a lot of movies. I honestly don't know why I liked it so much. It was probably a hundred different things all rolled together. Plus the fact that I was going through some things in my life at the time which was addressed in the movie and which really spoke to me. But the worship scenes in the movie were also powerful as well.

It seems to me that the only reason Christian films are still being made is because Christians tend to think that movies should have more "God" in them, so when a film is made that has nothing but "God" instead of "unimportant" things like a good story and characterization, it is snapped up. :\

The interesting thing is that there are so many "secular" films that do have God in them. The thing that has to be realized is that a film doesn't have to praise Jesus constantly and sickeningly or shy away from depiction of harsh reality to have a very powerful Godly message.

I saw the movie as well as a recommendation from my sister... and I will agree that the acting was not the best... the lead was pretty good... however that was not the point... the point was not the entertainment... it was the message... and that is what grabbed me... Having been raised a pastor's son, I have been exposed to all forms of "christian movies" this was not like any of the others... the message showed that bad things happen to good people... after 20 minutes I was able to identify with the lead... He was boing beaten upon by his brother christians.... his life was falling apart and he was still trying to praise the Lord... he set a good example of how we should be... and I don't like football... so it was not the football action for me... but the final message on faith and trust was just great....

Our world throws so much crud down our throats that it was nice and refreshing to watch that message...

Your definition of "crud" please as I find that not to be the case (cinema wise).

Sure... the slasher excessive gore... they were out when I was in my teens but were not as realistic as they are now... also so many overly sexualized movies for no reason at all. Case in point... I wanted to take my son to see the Transformers movie... he is almost 9. I saw it first because I want to be sure it is going to be okay... there was a really bad lustful scene and a conversation that was not necessary between the parents and son, as well as another with the robot I will not describe... these elements did not add to the storyline and could have been removed and I would have considered talking my son... that was crud added into a movie for the shock value only... It might also have reduced the rating... now - there are some awesome movies with incredible actors and stories... Miss Potter is one of them... I am not saying that ALL movies are crud... just that we get a lot of that thrown at us that having this kind of message is refreshing... and the best part is we all have a choice to watch or not...

Thank you asking for that clarification... hope that helps

God Bless.

Mild sexuality isn't "shock value", perhaps Bay was trying to make a more mature film, although in his case I doubt it.

I disagree with sexual content in films being crud, it is a normal function of our bodies and as such has no reason to be hidden.

Then we agree to disagree - and that is perfectly good.... :) I really don't like it when they start marketing these movies to young children - then they come out with pg-13 ratings.... we have the choice to not go....

Facing the Giants was safe... another movie that was - to my knowledge - not made by christians - but had wonderful values was " the Rookie" more movies like this should be made... but that is just my opinion...

Sorry to pull from original topic...

There are plenty unless your definition of a christian movie includes praising Jesus and having an unrealistic "life changing" message.

Let me rephrase my comment. There are not too many movies being made today that reflect a positive look at God and Christianity.

As for the comment about "unrealistic life changing message" I totally disagree with you. I don't feel that any movie that has a positive message is unrealistic. With God ANYTHING is possible. :preach: :liturgy: :prayer:
