Well, I've got a Chef Boyardee pizza kit and a box of Kraft macaroni and cheese (it's the cheeziest!) that are both celebrating their first birthday today. Is the "best by March 12, 2006 8:43PM" stamp really anything to be concerned about? I ate the Kraft macaroni and cheeze's sister a few months ago and it tasted just fine.

OOOPS! That's March 2006 ^_^

You'll be fine. That's the "best if used by" date. Food is still good for MONTHS at least after that date as long as it isn't something that is refrigerated.

:p
Yeah like my milk (that I just looked at) said I think Feb 27 ^_^

needless to say it was more like cottage cheese than milk....hehe

I'm going to have a go at the pizza. I just went to Publix and bought some shredded cheese and pepperoni slices. I saw a really gorgeous redhead (somewhat of a weakness for those) there but didn't have the nerve to invite her over for some year old Chef Boyardee pizza. I will be kicking myself in the butt over that one. :sorry:

The redhead must've been a sign!!! ;) I would be very interested to see how you were going to invite her over for Chef Boyardee pizza. "Hey, nice hair, do you like Chef Boyardee?" :)

LOL @ the above.

You're braver than I would have been Kawliga. I wouldn't chance it on the Chef Boyardee. I confess that I have cheetos from February in my kitchen but I think those are safe.

How'd the pizza turn out? I don't think the redhead would've accepted, but that would've been an awesome dinner date. LOL

"Hey miss, do you like birthday parties? I'm throwing one tonight, and you're invited."

The pizza was great. I figured it would be. It's all just dry goods anyways. Nothing in there that I could see spoiling. The redhead says hello all. She said that Chef Boyardee pizza was a great date idea. She hasn't made one of those since she was a kid. Well, we're off to go fishing.

J/K about the redhead part. The pizza was really good though, not kidding about that part.^_^

If you alll have out date stuff you can send it to me. I will gladlr accept it and eat it. As far as the can thing as long as the can is in good shape you can eat it. When a can is badly damaged then forget it. Just remember that the dated thing is mandated by our loving and caring government and before that time our parents and grandparent ate the stuff without the date printed on the cans.

The only thing I'd be concerned about would be the sauce sitting in a metal can for years. Something unhealthy is bound to be happening.
The can explodes. Seriously. Not like a big 'kaboom' explosion, but just enough to leave disgusting, black stains in your cabinets for years.
Sometimes being a packrat does have its disadvantages.

great article:
http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/gu...n-dates-matter

good resource with dates for every kind of food i can think of:
http://www.algeri-wong.com/wiki/inde...piration_Dates
check out the fact that they recommend 9 months for mixed like brownie and pancake mixes. just because they're dry doesn't mean they can't go bad or get salmonella. A kid recently died from eating bad pancake mix. it stuck in my head ever since....

Those are really good links. I want to save them in my favorites so they will be there for reference. I have way too much in "my favorites" already. Is there a way to divide them into sections?
