You are right that a diet too high in soy can have negative effects on health. That is the irony of the modern SDA health message. They encourage a vegetarian lifestyle but many are lead to eating products that are unhealthy and too high in sodium, soy and even msg, a well known excitotoxin. Look at the fare served at the potlucks to understand that most veggie Adventists do not understand the crux of the health message.

All things in moderation. I've not had any issues with the vegetarian meat that I eat, but I also don't overdue it. Some people miss the message for the mission. We are suppose to advocate a healthy lifestyle which includes a healthy diet. If you have trouble with soy products then you may want to find other alternatives. Some people can't handle a diet without meat and so they shouldn't cut it out. Again, it's all about moderation and healthy living.

Vegetarians eat veggies, not veggie burgers and veggie meat.

Soy should be taken in limited quantities and preferably unheated. And today 99% of soy beans are genetically modified from Monsanto, unfit for consumption.

Many people are glutten intolerant. You have to find out what diet fits your body.

The general rule of our health message is based on the Genesis diet of 1. Seeds and seed baring fruits as the main diet 2. herbs (leaves, roots...) as suplymental.

While the general rule applies everyone, there is no one-size-fits-all diet. And because our existing health conditions, our body sometimes reacts to normally good, healthy foods. We need to detox/cleanse first. I'm not a professional on this. If you are interested, you can contact Danny Vierra who is a medical missionary/health evangelist on Facebook or through his contact info at Modern Manna Ministry.

I am not saying all this things out of bitterness. I am just hoping my experience can be of help to anyone -- afterall it is thru our mistakes that we learn. The problem with me is that I join the SDA church as a teenager -- I was very impressionable and vulnerable. I was taught that the teachings of the church were infallible and not to question anything. There wasn't any internet and everything was taboo. The church essentially turned me into a doormat. Now I know that the church is more like a hospital full of sick people. Unfortunately I shouldn't had become a vegetarian during that time -- I wasn't ready for it. On occasions I still consume soy products -- but not everyday. I wonder how many teenagers are going thru similar circumstances as mine?

Many are, Lynna. I did. it was like they didn't want you to have any fun. Add that to the rules of your household, and it was stifling. Unfortunately we are not very good at explaining to ourselves let alone our children.

Plus over the generations things have changed and there were days when children did not question, could not question and just did as they were told. As hte information age come in and children are now encouraged to ask and explore the old way of "just as I say without explanation" just does not work. They can question and explore everything else but not their religion. It is very inconsistent.

Lynna,

We all need a conversion experience. A lot of times, people are baptized into the SDA church without knowing the SDA doctrines and more importantly without being truly born-again. Then they are asked to do these thing based on the previous assumption. Of course it then is a burden.

But Jesus told us 'If you love me, keep my commandments'. What He asks us to do is not burdensome, but is for our benefit. Won't you try to give up first on the worldly things that you are convicted with and ask Jesus to come into your heart? After those days He will write His law on your heart and your mind. Then all these other things that are a burden now will be a pleasure naturally because it profits the soul.
