The tiger salamanders really liked grub worms that we just dug up in the garden or earthworms, oh and crickets. Ours preferred the water too, we eventually made the aquarium mostly water by dividing it with plexiglass and using a rtv sealeant. The sealant has to cure for a week though. They were very amusing. I checked to make sure I was correct on the lifespan thing and the book said 12-20 years. Your Mom may just get used to them like I did! Best to you.

Anybody have exotic pets?

I had a Ferrett for 10 years. Totally recommend one to anyone. Oreo was one of the best pets ever with all ages.

I have 3 ferrets-Penn,Teller, and Nibbler. They are my babies!! Ferrets are quite the responsibility-but so worth it!!!

I have 4 degus, Chile, China, Chi-Chi, and Cee-Cee. They are the most fun I have ever had with a pet. The each have unique personalities and are trainable. I would suggest them to anyone, even though they may be a bit hard to find.
