• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I've made a few posts over the last few years concerning my current season of life. So much has taken place, and still IS taking place that it is hard to find a good spot to start without missing details.

I am exhausted with life, my wife (verbally abusive and twice physical), kids, college, work, and lacking good sleep.

Just not sure what more can be said that has not already been stated other than after spending many years completing a degree the local economy in-which it was useful has crumbled requiring a relocation. My wife will resent this decision. She would rather suffer and barely make it to stay close to her family and friends which have more importance in her life than her own family.

I am four classed away from completing a useful one that had provided my best paying job ever, but sadly it turned out to be a summer only position because they would rather keep someone who is never on-time to work (yes, I am mad!). I worked very hard and they stated how they wanted to keep me for the winter, but since this guy worked with them the last 4-summer he is being kept instead. Even though he plans to leave in January and refused to tell them, which hurts my family further. Furthermore, this guy didn't even start until 6-weeks ago and did not intend to come back. This is not the first time something like this has happened to me and frankly, I am tired of working hard for nothing. Even with perfect attendance, being early, getting everything done on time or early and picking up extra projects appears to mean nothing these days. I guess being "buddy buddy", going hunting, camping, fishing with the boss is what lands you the position. Sorry, just burned out and my wife gets very mad anytime I express my concerns, leaving me no one to chat with these days.

I can relate so much. I just feel so utterly useless. I'm almost 30 years old, yet have accomplished nothing in life. Most people by my age have careers, families, etc. All I have is mental illness that prevents me from doing anything except wallowing in self-pity and sitting on the computer all day :'(.

I've found hobbies helped me. I am also a fantastic day dreamer and researcher. We're financially strapped and probably will be for a very long time, but we recently decided to save money for an ATV to take the kids on Alaskan adventures and teach them how to hunt. I am very goal oriented and crazy without having something to drive me forward. My other goal is to reduce our medical debt while buying a piece of land somewhere outside of town and build our own place using a portable sawmill.

It may take me 5 years to accomplish some of this, but it gives me something to look forward to achieving and have made some really good like minded friends along the way. Although, some of them now live out of state or several hours away.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Praying for you dear friend.

I love that verse so much and have felt this season of life is about to change for the last year. However, for some reason it's stuck in the final few hours and wont make the change. Just need a few things to fall in place.

Thank you for the prayers.

We have a lot in common as I am an avid hunter and fisherman and I own a few acres in the woods that I am considering placing a off grid cabin. I have been looking at pallet cabins and shipping containers and everything in between.
Having goals is paramount to healing, Just remember to always let God pilot your plans :]

To all who feel inadequate here, let us remember that it is especially the humble and meek ones who the Lord has special regard for. Just make the Lord Jesus your best Friend, who said to those who trust Him and walk with Him: "lo, I am with you always". Let us "rejoice in Him and be glad" (see all of Phillippians).

I have had the same experience after graduating from college, and have been disillusioned with the idea of "meritocracy". When I entered the workforce I was under the impression that working hard, being on time and being competent would make room for career advancement available, only to find out that nepotism was the determinant of how far you would go.

In the corporate environment I work in I actually went against the grain and voiced my dissatisfaction with this arrangement, and was blackballed from any type of promotion within the company. The degree that I hold would be perceived as worthless in practicality, so finding a better job has been a challenge, to say the least.

Now I am in a dead end position doing meaningless work. As soon as I get home from work I immediately go to sleep to avoid the emotions of failure and depression. Since you have responsibilities to others you must continue to move forward; as for me, on the other hand, I have checked out.

God does not want you to "check out" as you say! Make the Lord Jesus your best Friend, as well as Savior and Lord of your life, and you WILL experience peace, joy, and eternal blessings. That is the promise of God. Looking within and around can be troubling, so "look up" as God enjoins us.

I understand it can definitely be difficult and oftentimes we feel like we're going against the grain. At least there are communities like this where we realize that other people are struggling and life is not easy.

So much of Christianity that I didn't realize until recently is the amount of time one must spend checking one's thoughts. It really is a battle of the mind for sure. I know the temptation is strong to give up but don't do it. Get up. Get up. Get up. There is a place for you in this life. You are here for a reason and an ambassador for the creator of the Universe itself. I pray you are all filled with strength to carry the loads you have been given to bear. God loves you. Always and relentlessly.

I agree. Comparison with others is a mind killer and stirs up envy.
