  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Of course, if the bible does not support your worldview, it is my missunderstanding that is at fault.

Doublethink at it's finest.

Okay... so I answered your question that was on topic. Any comments on that?

You are of course right. Correlation does not mean causation.

But why do the states with the death penality in the USA consistently have more murder cases then the states without it?

Deterrence: States Without the Death Penalty Have Had Consistently Lower Murder Rates | Death Penalty Information Center

I haven't studied the reasons but there could be plenty:
Perhaps the crime predates the death penalty and it was adopted in those states because the people there are more exposed to violence and thus wish to be harsher on criminals.

Perhaps both the acceptance of the death penalty and the rate of violent crime are both caused by a shared factor like religious beliefs. (For instance states that teach creationism are more likely to oppose homosexual acceptance, but this isn't because of the increased belief in creationism)

Perhaps states that execute criminals tend to treat non-execution bound prisoners worse which causes them to have a higher chance to re-offend once they leave prison.

Plenty of possible reasons.
