I've met somebody who claims not to believe in evolution and the person is educated and knowledgeable in biology and other fields, is intelligent, and is sane. So Dawkins is wrong. How could he be so sure of himself in his error? Could he be wrong about something else too? I'm sure some alchemists, phrenologists, etc. were absolutely certain in their ideas too.

I think that if that person is truly educated in biology etc. and denies evolution, they are maintaining a cognitive dissonance. At some level, this is insanity.
Of course, we could argue whether cognitive dissonance is insanity or not, but that would be to miss the point.
All pithy quotable phrases are wrong at some level. <-- Including that one. To argue about that wrongness always misses the point. (<--And that one!) For example, one should not claim that the metaphor "He is a tree" because the initial speaker can't adequately extend the metaphor to include xylem.

I would contend that Skaloop was not being insulting. Being ignorant is correctable. Being stupid is not. As such, Skaloop allowed that whoever he was addressing was educable.

I spoke with him to double check whether he was sane. He said he woke up this morning a little cognitively dissonant, but he was going out for some Fast Actin Tinactin and get it cleared up.
Dawkins says ...absolutely safe to say . He goes out of his way to rule out being wrong. Honestly I think a proper scientist has no business making such a statement, both for its inaccuracy and its calumny. But a celebrity author, who benefits from making news, making controversy, and selling books, certainly has some business saying it.

Seriously, in addition to being wrong and insulting, I'd say Dawkins statement is potentially dangerous. Its the same approach taken against a person who says homosexuality is wrong, and theyre accused of having a phobia, a mental illness. The same logic sometimes used in Soviet Russia, you know This government is creating a workers paradise, and you wish to criticize it? Theres obviously something wrong with you.
