just saw and advertisement for this on Comedy Central... given that John Stewart seems reasonably intelligent, I'm assuming that this won't be some kind of creationist garbage, and I know he's made fun of ID in the past... did he title it that just to get viewers? We'll have to watch and find out...

Was this a real tv show?
It is a real TV show airing next week. A news snippet:

Comedy Central said:
Science vs. Religion. Evolution vs. Creation. It is an age-old battle whose time has come. "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" will gather together all the experts (or at least those who will talk to them), travel to the places that matter in the debate (basic cable budget permitting) and ultimately settle the controversy once and for all. "Evolution Schmevolution: A Daily Show Special Report" will premiere on Monday, September 12 and air nightly at 11:00 p.m. through September 15.
For one full week, "The Daily Show" goes in-depth, around, through and quite possibly under, one of the hottest hot-button issues facing our nation: evolution. It's the accepted theory on the origin of life by an overwhelming majority of the world's biologists, but maybe they're all wrong. What's so great about the scientific method anyway?
I'm ecstatic. I can only hope that some younger viewers with creationist views will be watching.

I have little doubt that the show will ultimately be a bash of creationism/ID (this is a good thing, and more people need to realize what a joke the anti-evolution position really is), I just hope they have a sufficient background in the subject, or confer with people that do, to properly present the issue.

Stuff I don't want to see them screw up:

* Evolution vs. religion (i.e. conflation of evolution with atheism)

* Evolution not a progress ladder of life

* Evolution NOT a theory on the origin of life itself (even their promo leads me to believe that they may already be screwing this up as half of all laypeople do)

I love Jon Stewart. The guy is hilarious and surprisingly astute about current events.

Anyone remember the recent spate he had with Bill O'Reilly where O'Reilly accused his audience of being 'stoned slackes'?

Turns out Jon Stewart audience are "are 78% more likely than the average adult to have four or more years of college education and 74% more likely than the average adult to have a household income of greater than $75,000 and an occupation of "professional, owner or manager." while O'Reilly's audience are "24% more likely than the average adult to have four or more years of college education and, amazingly, are 15% less likely than the average adult to have a household income of greater than $75,000 and an occupation of "professional, owner or manager."

I also love the press release about his "Evolution Schmevolution":

"Evolution Schmevolution" will explore:
......
* Should your child's curriculum really be decided by experts in their
respective fields?

Bill Dembski is supposed to appear on The Daily Show Monday, 9-12. I will be rooting for him.

Well then he'll be placing yet another nail in his coffin.

Brennin, how many times must you be told that ID is not science before you finally realize it?

LOL, me too. :D Jon Stewart is the king of mockery, and this series will no doubt rip creationism/ID apart in ever-more hilarious ways day after day after day. It might even do some good and help people see "creation science" for exactly what it is - the attempt of one vocal segment of fundamentalist Christianity to blot out any science that they have theological issues with. I'm definitely going to record this. :)
