  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Typical creationist thread:

Ask strawman question.
Only respond to those posters who answer aforementioned strawman question.
Respond with typical creationist 'gotcha.'
Become confused when presented with much data that blows strawman out of water.
Continue posting with sarcastic remarks.//

That is a pretty good summation of what frequently happens. I expect a Pascals wager within the next 20 posts.

Because if the claim is we come from apes then we should be compatible.

Let's spell it out.

Why would an ape be compatible if their own Brother & Sister isn't ?

Even if they were, which it's quite clear they're not, there are cases of people with tails. Again, I know you won't research it yourself, you're too arrogant and/or lazy to risk being proven wrong, but you can look it up.

And it would be greatly appreciated if you would stop calling me arrogant, lazy, etc. I have not resorted to name calling, NOT ONCE and I don't plan too.

The minute you showed me the pictures I Did start looking it up. Just haven't found anything that I find credible. I find the definition of a atavism but reasonable documentation, negative. But while looking I found this article, but I'm sure you'll discredit this.

I will watch the videos; but just to give you a heads up, I'm not going to believe anything that contradicts my Bible.

NEWSFLASH! Creationist's self-admitted biased and dishonest investigation of science results in false conclusions. Film at 11!

You can call it what you like (i.e. ignorance, stubbornness, laziness);

I'll call it you pretending "your interpretation of the Bible" is equal to "the Bible"... which of course, is a form of idolatry.

but just like you don't take the word of the Bible to be true, I do not take the words of the scientist to be right.

...its worse than that, GN; skepticism is encouraged, but you don't even bother to do an honest investigation, and as your post here makes explicit; you'd reject anything which doesn't comply with your preconceived notions.

By the way GN, I heard that creationist Christianity is a form of cannibalism. I'll listen to whatever you have to say about it, baby-eater, so long as it doesn't contradict my belief that it is cannibalism. So convert me, already. Betcha can't huh? Well if you can't, that just proves I was right all along, you are a cannibal, and not a True(TM) Christian.

You missed the best bit.

If you head back a few pages, you'll see where she said she'll look at the evidence, but no matter what it says, she won't believe it if it contradicts what she already believes.
^_^ Typical creationist response indeed. This begs the question; at what point does one leave reason behind, and rely on feelings?

I'm wrong because I don't follow the evolution theory.
You're wrong because you reject reality. You do not want to know facts that would disturb your world view, and so you simply reject them. Do you have any idea how bad your approach makes Christianity look?

Well I say you are wrong because you don't believe in what the Bible says. Sound fair enough to you?
If you were to give cogent reasons why anyone should believe what the Bible says, and if readers here were to reject those reasons because they already believe in science and don't want to hear them, then it would be fair. As it is, no, it doesn't sound like a fair comparison.

It does make Christianity look bad. Its an example of why Christianity has so little success in Asia. People dont take to being told that they must believe the incredible, and reject the obvious.

Guidance.. when you are through looking up info on human tails (including looking at a skeleton to see the tail bones that YOU have) would you please come back and let us know that you understand that you were mistaken in this? Its cool when a person can accept that they were wrong about something, and it kills any credibility they might have, when they cant.

You are (almost) funny (sometimes)

Not really. It's actually sad & damaging.
I really wonder if people like this realize how much damage they can do to the faith.

Of course, by itself, atavism doesn't prove evolution.

But start combining it with other evidence. Research almost anything in my sig, in particular human chromasome #2, Homo Neanderthalis DNA, mtDNA and also look up these species:

Homo Erectus
Homo Habilis
Homo Rudolfensis
Austrolapithicus (There were two species of these, I forget their full names. Africanis or something, I think was one of them.)
Homo Florensis

They're not in chrinological order, because I can't remember what order they were in. But look up their fossils.

Anyway, I've been awake for about 2 days now, and desperately need sleep.

Ok I'm suppose to admit I am wrong about what? The tail or that I think the pictures were altered? Yes I have found articles that explain Atavism. Do they prove evolution? Not to me.

Ok I'm not a complete idiot, although I know some here beg to differ.

The bottom line is you believe we originated from monkeys, fine. I do grasp the concept of evolution. As far as the complete process, no I can honestly say I am not interested in learning the step-by-step process scientist claim for evolution to take place.

BUT even if you explained to me the step-by-step process of evolution, I still would not believe it. And we all know why.

Please stop lying, that's an abomination to the Lord, no one is saying we originated from monkeys, and to keep repeating that after being shown & posted & explained that it's not true, is called Lying.

I'm an evolutionist, but I commend the scepticism of those photos. Posted without a reliable source they could easily have been photoshopped and any critical thinker would be right to ask for something a bit more substantial. I agree that there are reliable sources that show human tails happen but it still does not follow that the photos are trustworthy, and we still don't know what sort of a tail that is (a true human tail or just some sort of conveniently placed growth).

Nothing will ever "prove" evolution, any more than you can "prove" god.

When you say "prove evolution' you betray a profound lack of understanding of what science is. Avoid saying that, and you will sound more credible. Not being snarky, its just solid advice.

You said that you didnt believe the pictures were real, and I thought you were saying that you dont believe people ever grow tails. Do you now understand that people do grow (external) tails? And that you , too, have tail bones?

In context, though, if you were immortal and could see life first crawl out of the oceans, and then become as diverse and intricate as it is now, that still wouldn't be evidence enough for you.

So it ultimately just comes back to me having a good ol' laugh at me, and everyone proving you wrong at every turn.

Agreed. The photos look kind of fake to me. But the fact that humans grow tails sometimes is not up for grabs. ANY doctor on planet earth will tell you its real.

Well you pretty just much called all the ones on the very page liars. THAT was the VERY 1st question I asked. Go read it the postings! Which again as I said was the basis of my 2nd question! If the answer would of been NO across the board, this thread would of been moot!!!!

I'm only go by what I was told from the very first page. So I'm not the liar!

So I didn't come off as looking lazy, before I replied I went ahead and looked up the coccyx; which YES I knew we ALL have a tailbone.
