We don't "see" anything in the past. We only imagine things based on a variety of sources. If you'd like to predict what things will evolve into, I'd be glad to watch with you.
If found a load of ceramic shards on the floor and picked up the pieces could you tell it was a vase and what shape it was? Could a CSI figure out what height it had fallen from or if it had been thrown? What if you were going to drop a vase, could you predict the shape of the fragments and their distribution?

I didn't find your use of "kind" as a formal descriptor for a group.
Rather as a substitute for "what y'all refer to as a Hawk".

Yes that is pretty much how I read 'kind', not just in Leviticus and Deuteronomy but in Genesis too. It means 'different sorts' of animals rather than a biological classification.

In theory, it could be done. But our track record says to always hold fast to doubt.

Could a CSI figure out what height it had fallen from or if it had been thrown?
Not likely.

What if you were going to drop a vase, could you predict the shape of the fragments and their distribution?

Very roughly.

It depends on the number of shards, the distribution of them and how many of them have not been destroyed over time.
The CSI's will be able to what you asked if they are competent enough and disciplined in their field of work.
No..there would be to many variables..weight of the vase-impact force..is the floor, ground, rock or stone level, slanted or uneven? What shape is the vase? Different shapes will have different debris patterns.
I concur with the statement about "kinds".

Certainly time could destroy a lot of the evidence, but that wasn't my point here. SkyWriting claimed you could not 'see' what happened in the past and challenged me to predict how things will evolve. I was pointing out there is a difference between working out what happened in a random event, the breaking and scattering pattern of a vase when you have the shards and positions, and predicting the shape and positions of shards in advance.

You can take the pieces and rebuild them to find out what kind of vase fell. Tests with similar vases will tell you how much it will fragment and how far the pieces are scattered falling from different heights onto a similar surface. The shape of the scatter pattern, round or spreading out in one direction, would tell you whether it fell straight or was travelling with a horizontal component to its velocity.

Each time you drop a vase you will get different sizes and shapes for all the shards and the positions of the shard will be different each time. It is as impossible to predict what the shape the shards will be and where they will end up, just as it is impossible to predict random mutations. But the pattern of size and distribution is regular, and from the actual fragments you can work out the what the vase looked like, even though it was smashed in the past before you saw it, and even work out what happened to it.
