I think a lot of those that say evolution is a lie don't understand what the theory of evolution actually is. Likewise, they do not understand the definition of theory in terms of science. In order to have a productive dialogue on the matter, these terms must be defined and understood by all participants. By evidence of the numerous other threads on the subject, it is apparent that not all will agree on the definition of these terms.

To "despoil" is actually to deprive something of its "spoils" as in "spoils of war" as in valuable, good things. So to despoil is to divest it of its worth.

I think it is because there is a trend here where someone starts a thread asking what a creationist thinks about something, and before one of them can answer evolutionists come in and make a bunch of sarcastic predicitions about what the creationists might say.

I like humor as much as the next person, but I really don't blame the creationists for not answering if they're being made fun of before they even get to speak.

I would give the thread another day before I write it off, the person it was addressed too most likley has a limited amount of online time and hasn't been on since a little bit before the thread was made.
The problem is that the forum moves fast.

Now, if you want a thread to write off, that would be my last "split off" thread. The creationist person suggested a debate, but has yet to be back to the forum to address anything I have said.

the generally accepted definition when someone says evolution is "evolutionary theory" or the "biological process". When I mean evolutionary theory, I say evolutionary theory, when I mean evolution "biological process", then I say evolution.

As talk origion points out it is very difficult to come up with a acceptable definition of what evolution is. You will notice that when evos do get done with their arguement as to just what evolution is, the definition is one that the average person can not understand it. So it is no wonder that people think that evolution is a lie, because evos shoot themselves in the foot. How is the average person suppose to sort it out? There are tons of jokes about evolution, then you have creationists with their definitions of what evolution is and then you have evoes fighting it out and unable to decide among themselves just what evolution is.

This whole statement is about as clear as mud. What do you mean by evolutionary theory? What is a biological process? Why do you assume I can read your mind and know what you mean when you use these terms?

No it doesn't. That article clearly defines evolution, and is intended for even laymen and creationists to understand. That didn't happen in your case. So instead of actually trying to understand what the article says, you've chosen to distort it.

Bam. Evolution - a change in the frequency of alleles from one generation to the next in a population. It's not hard for the average person to understand, but it is hard for you to understand.

There are tons of jokes about evolution, then you have creationists with their definitions of what evolution is and then you have evoes fighting it out and unable to decide among themselves just what evolution is.
