  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Evolution False? Absolute proof inside.

I take issue with people being punished or rewarded for the actions of others.
There are a few places in the Hebrew OT which states:

Deut 24:16
Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin.

2 Kings 14:6
But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, 'The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers;
but every man shall be put to death for his own sin'.

Jeremiah 31:29-30In those days they shall say no more, 'The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge'.
But every one shall die for his own iniquity.

Ezekiel 18:
19"Yet you say, 'Why should the son not bear the punishment for the father's iniquity?' When the son has practiced justice and righteousness and has observed all My statutes and done them, he shall surely live.
20 "The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father's iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son's iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself.
21 "But if the wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed and observes all My statutes and practices justice and righteousness, he shall surely live; he shall not die.…

I'm sorry, but obeying the whims of ancient, barely literate goat herders shouldn't be high on anyone's priority list.
They did it anyway ... despite your advice.

And would do it again as well.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one or few :)
No.

Sarah wants to know why the priests back then rubbed bird blood on houses that they had determined was leprosy-free; and the answer is simple:

They were told to.

There are also plenty of biblical passages that say the exact opposite, that people should be punished or rewarded for the actions of their family.
I notice this site put up verses for that and this verse they quote is rather interesting:

Are we punished for the sins of others?

Zephaniah 1:8 I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

Zeph 1:
7 Hush! in presence of my Lord YAHWEH, that near Day of YAHWEH, that YAHWEH prepares a sacrifice,
He sanctifies ones being called of Him.
8 And it becomes in day of sacrifice of YAHWEH, that I visit/punish the chiefs, and sons of the King, and on all of ones being clothed clothing foreign.
[Matt 22:11/Revelation 19]

Matthew 22:11
And entering in yet the King, to gaze of the ones the reclining at table, he saw there a Man not clothed with cothing of wedding-feast:
[Luke 16:19/Zeph 1:7]

Maybe you had better read that again.

What Bible?

Ah, so it was the priests, not the Bible, who were to be obeyed regardless of whether or not they made sense.

Because as much as you (and certainly they) would like like us all to think they got their instructions directly from God, that's simply not how the training goes, is it?

No way.

This was a direct commandment from God; long before the Bible came along.

According to....?

Sound like one of the plagues in Revelation 16

Lev 13:
30 “then the priest shall examine the sore; and indeed if it appears deeper than the skin, and there is in it thin yellow hair, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean.
It is a scaly leprosy of the head or beard.
42 “And if there is on the bald head or bald forehead a reddish-white sore, it is leprosy breaking out on his bald head or his bald forehead.

Rev 16:
2 and the first did go away, and did pour out his vial upon the land, and there came a sore -- bad and grievous -- to men,
those having the mark of the beast and those bowing to his image.
11 and they did blaspheme the God of the heaven, from their pains and from their sores,
and they did not reform from their works.

I thought you said that first books of the Bible were written directly by Adam.
What "first books of the Bible"?

Adam wrote Genesis 1 - 3.

Seth wrote Genesis 4 & 5.

Noah wrote Genesis 6 - 9.

Shem wrote Genesis 10 & 11.

Abraham wrote Genesis 12 -25.

etc.

(That's a rough draft.)

In my opinion, right.

Do you have something better?

Indeed -- someone besides "Adam" put it to writing in Hebrew after years of oral tradition in the temples.

In what "temples"?

There was no temple until Solomon's time.

In fact, God would not let David build the Temple.

And for the record, what's this?

Genesis 5:1a This is the book ...

An indication of when the words were put into writing... long after Adam allegedly gave up the ghost.

Really, AV -- at least TRY to understand context...

Better for whom?
Better for me.

I'm the one you have to convince, eh?

Until you do, your silliness can take a hike.

This is what bugs me about some of you people:

You ridicule me for thinking Adam spoke Jacobean English.

But then when I pin you guys down, the truth comes out that you don't believe in Adam in the first place.

So then what does it matter what language he spoke?

Suppose I said I believed Humpty Dumpty spoke Chinese, because the wall he sat on was the Great Wall of China?

Which sounds sillier to you?

  1. Humpty Dumpty spoke Chinese.
  2. Humpty Dumpty sat on the Great Wall of China.
  3. I believe Humpty Dumpty was real.
Same with Noah.

I put up with ridicule because I believe he lived in [what is now] New Jersey.

But when I pin my antagonist down, the truth comes out that he/she doesn't believe in Noah in the first place.

So then what does it matter where Noah lived?

You've got some explaining to do, Tino; but I'm sure you won't.

It's more fun to ridicule a person, than it is to respect what he believes; isn't it?

No; you're more or less a lost cause. This is more for the benefit of the lurkers.

Until you do, your silliness can take a hike.

None at all -- except that it pains us as fellow members of the human race to see you doubling down on the blather for no other reason than you can.

It's more fun to ridicule a person, than it is to respect what he believes; isn't it?

Depends on how easy it is. Some beliefs merit less respect than others -- some merit none at all.

It's the difference between someone who wears a tinfoil hat because they think the government is trying to read their thoughts, and someone who wears a tinfoil hat because they think their head's a baked potato.
