• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

HI,
I have a problem where at some point this bad habit started where I watched shows on the crime channel about serial killers and murderers and my brain will just go and say "Hey, come live in me."
Because I found it so appalling and my brain would sometimes think of the worst thing to do or say and just think it. Almost like it wants to spite me.
And I'm scared about it afterwards, because I don't want anything to do with possession, evil spirits, nor be followed around or be possessed.

I do pray about it. I say a prayer a lot that Jesus taught in the Bible.

But it also has me worried. Can you invite a demon in by just a thought. I say: "No, get out and stay away!", immediately in my thoughts afterwards and also "The Holy Ghost lives within me" .

It's all just in my thoughts. I was struggling with a lot of other thoughts as well at the time and this one just started during those.

You CANNOT invite a demon in by thinking about it. In fact, you can't invite a demon in at all as a Christian. Demons might torment Christians sometimes but not possess them. I know how juicy and interesting morbid shows about serial killers can be but it sounds like they are having a bad affect on you from a ***mental*** standpoint. So it might be better to give them a wide berth, at least for a time.

we all have evil thoughts going in us time to time. some of us get painful intrusive thoughts as well.

if you think they are intrusive then they can't belong to the better part of you because they are against your nature even if your worse nature had at some time or another allowed for evils to grow in you. some of use can hear the evil ones better than others but all people have evil ones around them so that they can pick good or evil. the evil ones do not even necessarily know that they are around you either, though they can know sometimes. it is good that one can at least discern them as evil because sometimes people can't even tell when evil flows in them.

I know that intrusive thoughts tend to be very troubling because it will often be that you are totally against and offended by them which leads us to strongly react to them. for me, I started getting wretched intrusive thoughts in my teen years cause I combined alcohol with weed and it did something to my brain. some of us are more prone than others to mucking something up in our brain when we abuse substances or a combination thereof. it probably rearranged and dis-inhibited some of my brains connections to where taboo stuff is not blocked off from normal thought processes.

a damaged system is then a symbolic reflection of hell in the same way that a broken arm is a symbol of hellish realities. it is just what the material reality is related to in the spiritual world in correspondences. intrusive thoughts make you as evil as a person is made evil for breaking their arm, as in, not at all. it is the obsession, love, intent, desire... it is the full growth of sin that leads to death aka spiritual death. having a few tares is troubling but its not like you will them and it's not like you have a desire to poison yourself with them. try to not react or pay attention to the thoughts that you don't want because in the brain what fires together wires together.

we might react to intrusive thoughts by responding with good ones or running towards the lord and I find this can be good as well because if evil thoughts make us run to God then they become much less a curse and more of a prick poking us towards God.

if you have lots of evil thoughts going on in you all the time you could try brute forcing them away with willful thinking about something else or by repetitive prayer or even exhausting your body with exercise I guess. sometimes we have seasons of hardships. many watch crime shows because it teaches us survival lessons, teaches us the nature of bad people and gives an enjoyment of solving a problem. do not take delight in evil doing and wretched things because what company we will is the kind that we will keep. what master we pick is the one that will rule us.

Demons grow into us when we agree with their lies, so for as long as you uphold the truth of Jesus demons cannot harm you.

Please understand that fearing demons gives them power, be fearless in Christ and keep their lies about God, yourself and you neighbour out, and the truth of God's love in and you will flourish.

So each time you fear a demon begin to praise Jesus for deliverance, this way evil attacks will stop soon enough.

Also repent of watching documentaries about evil it is not a constructive thing to do for someone with O.C.D but can make us fear evil in others as well as ourselves. Rather watch documentaries about how God saves people from their evil.

Peace.

I am, also why I'm trying to get my parents to stop watching the stuff. As I realised always seeing murder and death is really bad on your mental health.

I also started wondering if it's "demonic oppression" or just mental health.

I'm doing that at the moment, and it's exhausting. It did help a lot and it still does. I'm in a much better state than I was roughly a month ago. I know that as long as the Holy Ghost is with me, evil can't get in. Because Jesus drove the evil spirits out through the power of the Holy Ghost.

So every time this thought crosses my mind it's a battle of faith. I know the Holy Ghost has absolute power. So I know as long as the Holy Ghost and Jesus doesn't leave me, evil can't do a thing to me. I just don't want to let in evil spirits in by accident.
I realise I might just be seeking comfort that I can't by accident let evil spirits in through just a thought that crosses my mind, because at the same time it's the fear of not wanting to have that thought or ever do something like that, that makes the OCD just blurt it out in my head. Because it's that just do it and get it over with part of OCD that makes it so troubling.

I started to repent my sins, which is why I started wondering if this is why I feel like I'm under siege of bad thoughts.

Is there Christian documentaries? Most I see appears as if they were made from the viewpoint of non-Christians. So I don't want to watch them, as I don't know if their purpose is to spread the Word of God and strengthen the faith of Christians or try and subtly misguide people.

This type of intrusive thought, and fear of "accidentally" doing something bad, sounds typical of OCD. Do you struggle with other types of intrusive thoughts, or other types of obsessions, as well?

Hey. Your thoughts cannot cause what you fear. We all have fears. I'll give you a good example. When people are walking by a cop and his gun is just sticking out to the side, the thought often comes - What if I grabbed his gun? Most people just go on and they think - No, I would never do that and they go on about their day. Because the OCD would never do anything like that and fears such so much, it gets stuck in their mind and they can't let go of the fear of it. You know that you would never do it and it scares you so much to even be near the cop because of it but you begin to think - Did I? Did I bump into him and make it go off? Did I hear a gun shot. It's the doubting disease. It torments. Thoughts are just that - thoughts - nothing more, nothing less. With the OCD patient, they seem to come from nowhere and you don't mean them ever. In fact you hate these inaudible voices - these thoughts. GOD KNOWS YOUR HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i found this video encouraging because it deals with one of satan's main weapon - fear! This woman points out how fear paralyse and destroys us.

We need to overcome fear through the word of God, placing our trust in Jesus and let His love cast out our fear.

Jeshu, I believe that OCD is inherited and involves a misfire in a synapse in the brain and is caused by a chemical imbalance, NOT THE DEVIL! I find it disturbing to read title that mentions a Satanic Priest even if it was previously. It's very disturbing to me and I wish you hadn't posted.

i'm sorry that you think such things. i know O.C.D is an illness, anxiety is as well, but that is why satan is using that to torture people. That is what this video is about how satan uses fear and how Jesus can have us overcome it.

The video is about fighting fear not saying O.C.D or any mental illness is caused by the devil. If we can't discuss the methods our enemy uses how vulnerable will mentally ill people be?

Peace.
