This passage is about the Judgement Seat of Christ. There is no mention of puratory in the bible. I am fully aware of the verses that the church use to try and defend the man made doctrine, the problem is that I never read the entire thing when I was a Catholic. That you were raised Catholic, and i actively researched Catholicism before converting to the Catholic Faith and it was more alive than anything i hade ever known as a non-Catholic :)...for me i can not imagine turning my back on Christ present in the Holy Eucharist, but i guess it depends if you believe in that too :)

Having some dress codes and telling christains how to dress appropiately because of the discusting moral dress code in this world today is somthing that needs to be talked about from the pulpit.

I didn't mean to imply that as Christians, we should not concern ourselves regarding modest dressing. I was thinking of people who come right out and say that for a woman to wear pants is a sin, or for a woman to cut her hair is a sin, and these other external human standards. Yes, modesty should be practiced, but it is not a cut and dried thing, as there are so many cultural differences and time period differences. Elbows and ankles were considered "provocative" in the Victorian era, but lands sakes, those ladies' bosoms would be practically falling out of their low cut dresses, and it was not considered immodest.

However, telling the congregation that women should dress modestly and that drunkness is sinful is NOT legalistic. That is bible!

I agree! (although I must again say that the issue of modest dress is not cut and dried, and personal preferences should not be elevated to commands, of course)

I think that greeneyedlady was refrencing that using alcohol to the point of drunkeness is sinful. (correct me if I'm wrong greeneyedlady).


I'm Anti-"F" word. There is someone I work w/ that uses it way too often... and she's even in a different row than me and I can still hear it Ugh!

Here are my refernces that drunkeness is a sin.
Deuteronomy 21:20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

Proverbs 23:21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

Proverbs 26:9 As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

1 Thessalonians 5:7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Correct.
However, I personally have a conviction with drinking anything that will offend the Holy Spirit. It would only take me 1 glass to get me feeling pretty good, and that my friend is feeling drunk.
This is however, a personal conviction. I don't think its ok to drink alchol, but I don't judge people who do.
