But shouldn't all non-Christian books be burnt/destroyed in some way or fashion?

What? Of course not. Education is extremely important. You look at my library, and you'll find sacred texts of nearly every religion, including Scientology and LaVeyan Satanism.

I read the Eddur for the same reason I read the Heimskringla for the same reason I read the Nibelungenlied for the same reason I read Beowulf, &c., &c. They are the stories of my ancestors, my folk, my kindred.

Do I believe them to be true? Most certainly not.

Do I believe them to be on par with Christianity? No.

Do I enjoy reading them? More than certain Christian books!

I think my opinion is best phrased in the words of Tolkien himself:

"We have come from God, and inevitably the myths woven by us, though they contain error, will also reflect a splintered fragment of the true light, the eternal truth that is with God. Indeed only by myth-making, only by becoming ‘sub-creator’ and inventing stories, can Man aspire to the state of perfection that he knew before the Fall. Our myths may be misguided, but they steer however shakily towards the true harbour, while materialistic ‘progress’ leads only to a yawning abyss and the Iron Crown of the power of evil."

Animal farm was one we were forced to read in school for .english, but I had read it before then and liked it.

The one i hated the most that we were forced to read was lord of the flies by william golding.

Then you might want to give Tunnel in the Sky by Heinlein. Science Fiction. It is in part a rebuttal to Lord of the Flies. I personally think Lord of the Flies might be spot on, but only for British Schoolboys.
