my pastor is a prophetess. she has spoke over my life many times. nothing she's ever prophesied over me has been false or didn't come true. i've grown tremendously since i've sat under her teaching, and i've never been this close to the Lord at any other time of my walk with Him. i have definitely seen the benefits of sitting under a true prophetic anointing in my life. when you've witnessed the real anointing it's hard to settle for anything less than that. that's why i have a desire to see the true prophets of God raised up instead of these counterfeits that have been deceiving the Body of Christ. we were discussing this topic in my thread 'a prophet's reward' as well. stuart made a comment that the church is missing something in the absence of the true prophetic ministry, and it most certainly is. i believe that's why so many are being deceived by false anointings, because they are hungering for the real anointing yet no one is willing to be made on the altar so that they can operate in the true anointing. the anointing costs, and not many are willing to pay that price. that's why so many are operating in a counterfeit anointing, because they were not willing to pay the price for the real thing

Love,
~jazzy

yes i have, and the things they spoke are coming to pass now. some of it was years ago, some recently but it is all happening.

Could you elaborate on the substance of the prophecies and their fulfillment please?

We have many people out there who do operate in the gift of prophesy. Most except for a very small few operate in the gift of prophesy only. There are also a lot of people out there who call themselves prophets but are not.
I have had a number of people speak things over me during my life. Only a small percentage where actually saying prophesy and only a couple I would call prophets.
I have had words spoken over me that said I would lead people and I have.
I look for these things in a prophet.
1. They don't promote themselves as prophets. The say who they are by what they do.
2. They have a close relationship with God. This is a must as a prophet hears from God's spirit.
3. They do not always have a word for someone. A true prophet will not speak something unless God has given them something to say. Familiar spirits always have something to say to you.
4. They are humble, but when the speak they speak with authority.
5. Above all the measure what they say and do with Godly love.

I have probably said this before. Do not seek prophets. Seek God. God's prophets will always point you to God anyway.

there is a difference between someone who operates in a prophetic gift and someone who operates in the office of a prophet. i think that should be considered when we label certain people as prophets or prophetesses or when we label ourselves as such. i may have the gift of prophesy or even a prophetic ministry or prophetic anointing, but that doesn't mean i'm called to walk in the actual office of the prophet. there is a difference. i think we need to be educated on these levels of the prophetic so we dont walk around labeling everyone as a prophet or prophetess. sometimes we end up mislabeling people who have not been called to this office, and then when they fail we re-label them as false prophets. it's not that they're false prophets. its that they were trying to fulfill a role that God had not called them to! so it is important that we know the difference. i posted a teaching on this subject a while back. there's a copy in my blog if anyone is interested in reading it. it explains the 4 levels of prophetic ministry. maybe i will re-post it in this forum since there is so much talk of the prophetic and prophets. it didn't get a lot of replies. but i believe it is a topic worthy of discussion

Hi Jazzy, what you say has much truth, but were in His Word does His Word talk about a "prophet's office"? Because all who desire the Spiritual Gift of Prophesy can have it as far as I know by His Word. But nowhere do I see the Spiritual Gift of a prophet's office?:)

Hey Elijah,

all who desire to prophesy can prophesy according to their faith and the leading of the Spirit, but there is a difference between the GIFT of prophesy and the OFFICE of a prophet. i am not a prophet just because i can operate in the gift of prophesy. that is not all that prophets do. this is a mistake made by many in the church

the office of a prophet is not a spiritual gift. it is a MINISTRY gift to the Body. here is the Scripture:

Ephesians 4:11-13
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, PROPHETS; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the MINISTRY, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

This is what is known as the '5-fold ministry gifts': 1) Apostles, 2) Prophets, 3) Evangelists, 4) Pastors, and 5) Teachers. They all play a crucial role to the Church. According to this passage these ministry gifts have been established and ordained by God to help the church come into the KNOWLEDGE of God and UNITY of the faith. Through the ministry gifts we are edified and brought into maturity in Christ. They have been ordained for the 'perfecting of the saints'.

in order for someone to operate as a ministry gift, God has to first CALL them into that area of ministry. we cannot just go.... we must first be SENT by God. how shall they preach except they be sent? (Rom.10:15) a lot of people are zealous but dont operate in wisdom and maturity... that's why they havent been sent yet. other people are only looking for a TITLE or a POSITION in the church because they see the glory in it, but dont realize it comes with a price... these people haven't been sent either

apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers are all ministry offices that you have to be called to. God is not gonna ordain you to do something that He hasn't called you to do. and not everyone is called to be a ministry gift. some are, but not everyone. the Bible teaches that we are a Body made up of many members but with different functions, with different CALLINGS. we all have to seek God and find out what HIS calling and purpose is for our lives so that we can position ourselves accordingly in the Body

Love,
~jazzy

Good Post!

Here is something in relation to what you were talking about that helps identify the differences between Spiritual gifts and Ministry gifts,..

Rom 12:6 And having gifts differing according to the grace that was given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of our faith;

Rom 12:7 or ministry, let us give ourselves to our ministry; or he that teacheth, to his teaching;
Paul does draw a distinction between the two.

I am a prophet. But I am typically not called to speak to the church body that has already found it's way inside the church walls. My message is for those whom God sends to me. And I know God has sent them because they seek me out and ask me for my testimony.
Like Deba, prophets are sent to a specific group of people - it can be a large group or a small group, but there is a sphere of authority for them. The woman who used to mentor me in the prophetic has a sphere of authority that is mainly for leadership in the Body of Christ in a specific geographical region. Doesn't mean she can't prophesy or otherwise minister to others, but her role as a prophet (or "office") is to speak encouragement, guidance, and occasionally correction to those leaders.

IMHO it's very important for a prophetic minister to look for his or her place in the Body of Christ and to know that sphere and to intercede for the people in it.

I've had the word "prophet" spoken over me, and my spirit bore witness, but I am not in the "office" at this time; actually I'm in sort of a winter season right now, but that is a different subject.

bless y'all

I can only speak from my own experience. But once the call came, I was given a choice to accept or not, and showed the outcome of being a false prophet (Rev 19). It took me several hours to accept.

I was expecting to start ministry right away, but God put me through 3 years of His preparation - separating me from people - yet keeping me connected to the church, if that makes sense.

More than two years into it He finally told me what I as a prophet was suppose to be, "From the overflow of your heart your mouth will speak" And that has been so.

It goes back to 1 Cor 12 and 13. Paul said to pray for the greater gifts, I was confused and prayed to be a prophet. That is when the call came. But now almost 8 years into it I understand. The greater gift is actually love. I cannot stay distant from the people, for them to see the power of God.

My call as a prophet was confirmed by my District level leadership in the Assemblies of God.

I share to encourage you to not think you can make a list of what God can or cannot do or who He will or will not use.

And Tal that winter season. . . during the 3 years of spiritual preparation most people assumed I was in a desert because I was stripped of all material possessions, all dignity, position and pride. It was really ugly, but it was only a season.

This was on another thread, and is what prompted me to ask if any of you have encountered actual prophecies or actual prophets filled with the Holy spirit. We hear so much about false ones, but i was curious to know what stories there are of real ones/ any prophecies that have come true?

the reason so many people deny the true prophets is because they've seen so many false ones. it's sad, but just because there are false prophets that doesn't mean that there aren't any real ones still around. God always preserves a REMNANT for Himself just as He did in the days of Elijah. and they're usually on the backside of the desert.... they are the ones with no names and no huge followings. these are the ones that God is calling to forefront right now, because they're not looking to make a name for themselves. they are only looking to lift up the name of Jesus
Amen to that, Jazzy!

Does anyone have personal testimony of this or have heard of stories similar to this that they can share?

Yes, i can testify beyond any doubt whatsoever that i have truly known a Spirit-filled prophet of the Lord. my best friend, who died over 2 years ago, was profoundly gifted in the prophetic.

you want to know what kind of things he told me and how those things came true? well, try this one. in 2000, kentucky elected it's 1st republican governor in about 30 years. this governor, ernie fletcher, ran on a platform that he would change state government's corrupt "old boy" hiring system. he also gave out that he was a Christian and his overall platform was highly moral and etc. well, long story short, fletcher got in office and proceeded to behave pretty much as all his predessors had, appointing his buddys to choice state jobs. my friend, Dennis, told fletcher's personal secretary that he needed to repent and change his practise, because God was getting ready to judge him. Dennis' word was ignored. about a month, month and a half later, ernie fletcher went into the hospital for a gall bladder operation and almost died. when he got out of the hospital, he political enemies attacked him and hounded him till the day he left - he came close to going to jail. it was all in the press, you could hunt it down and read all about fletcher's problems. there won't be any mention of Dennis, tho.

of course, you didn't know dennis and don't know me, so my anedote probably won't mean anything to you. so i'll just say this further: being a prophet does not bring a lot of happiness to the prophet. it is not an easy life. a prophet will be ordered by God to tell people things they don't want to hear - and they don't often take it well.

dennis told me that sometimes when he wanted to sleep, he couldn't, because in the Spirit he could hear children crying. so i say to anybody who thinks they would like to become a prophet, "You won't enjoy it."

but knowing him changed my life, for sure.

I still wonder about what Im doing and where I should be. Im one of those who is only told go that way, and not told how far or why.

I serve CF right now and love all I can. but sometimes I wonder and hope for something I dont even know what. Makes it hard to pray for I guess.

I just pray for the vision and strength to be in His ministry where ever I am.

Maybe thats enough for me.

Amen to this.

Elevating someone to an office to which God never elevated them hurts the person with the false image of themselves, and hurts the people they try to minister to.

Have you ever known a David who was trying to fight the battle in Saul's armor?

Well, I heard from a prophet who I used to visit that I would be preaching and I would be making documentaries. I don't even make documentaries! But I do preach the doctrine.

That's a shame. You should preach the gospel instead. That's much better.
