  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Evening with the toasted moth

I'm sitting here, and I'm pretty sure that there's a moth getting toasted up on the floor lamp. Not something I would list as one of the perks of being single.

Did you ever just have some of those weird times alone at home that you never would have thought of? What are some of your single strange perks? I'm almost afraid to ask!

I read your thread title and laughed so hard that I spit water on my cat who *was* sleeping on her blankie next to my desk. She ain't a happy cat right now.

Single perks...hmm...tonight was ghetto music night in my place- I listened to all the stupid, mindless music I have on my hard drive as I was studying and bobbing my head in rhythm. Good times...

I don't have to ask permission before I change the channel on the TV either. I left my dinner dishes in the kitchen sink because I didn't feel like taking 5 extra seconds to put them in the dishwasher. I'm only halfway into my PJs right now because I keep getting these brilliant thoughts that I have to record before I lose them... How's that for perks, eh?;)

You have pretty eyes, Snowhite. Just thought I'ld let you know.

Anyway, wierd perks of being single... I've gotten to blare my heavy metal with out getting yelled at to either turn it down or turn it off. The actual perk though was when the moose came to my window and jammed out with me. :) Good times

Now that is a properly weird perk - getting to enjoy spitting water on your cat while reading CF! I'm glad it brought a smile. :)

I can eat crackers in bed too

(Note: Raanan has some percieving of truth. God does good work. :^) )

BTW - I think the moth got company and made it a toasty party. On the other hand, that doesn't even vaguely compare to the moose coming and hanging out - that's pretty cool. Hmmm - I wonder if I could rent a moose to see what it's like....

Hey KeilCoppes! It's good to see you back. I wondered where you had wandered off too.

Strange single perks-I can drink oj straight from the carton and nobody cares, I can leave my bed unmade if I so desire, I can have dinner at 5:30 or 10:00 and it can be a piece of cheesecake if that is what I want, I can watch all the chick flicks I want and not be harassed about it, my tv remote now skips over all those sports channels it once had to stop on and I always get the first shower!

Wow, I'm incredibly quirky, but I'm not sure if my quirks relate to my singleness.

Hehehe...ok, here's one. Anyone else hate cleaning out the refrigerator? Show of hands?

Anyway, I love rotel dip, but I can never eat all of it (see cooking for single people thread), so there's always some left over that sits in the tupperware, growing stuff. I don't think much about it, I just know not to eat it. The other day my ex-boyfriend came over starving to death (as usual!), and said "Hey, you want to eat some of this rotel dip with me?" I had to rush into the kitchen and grab the bowl away from him before he ate any of it. lol Anyway, I like being single because I don't have to keep people out of the health hazard that is my refrigerator (most of the time!).

I also like to fall asleep watching TV. Until recently, I only had 1 TV, so I would fall asleep on the couch and then wake up in the middle of the night and go to bed. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work out so well in a married relationship.

Now I've got an extra TV, so I just set the sleep timer on my bedroom tv. maybe a little less quirky, maybe not!

Perk about being single? I just felted my kitchen and living room tables to accomodate those sparatic poker parties that keep happening at my crib. Bascially redecorated in "Early college student/dead grandmother-frat house motif"*

Plus, no dishes. Single dudes can just eat over the sink.

*I won't be buying new or matching furniture. Everybody knows that the day you get married, no matter what you have, it's the wrong stuff.

Keil, where have you been? You dropped off the face of the planet for awhile there. :)

Well, you know, sometimes there are really unusual things that happen to single people, right? Well, the unusual happened - I met a girl on christian cafe 'round about March (yes, although infrequent, it actually does happen). Needless to say, I'm not spending time with her now.... Her tingles weren't consistent, so zzzzt - done. The time we had was a blessing from God, but like many blessings of God, it was a blessing only for the time He ordained. Thank God for blessings, even those that are for a time! And it was a good growth experience - it was Maggie who gave me the phrase 'holding God's blessings in an open palm'... and God used it! I hope He blesses her soon with the man she's looking for.

Anyway, I'm back on the forum and back searching the world for the one to walk home to glory with, with each day still a blessing of God.

It's good to be welcomed back - thanks! :)

NOTE: the idea of the thread is the weird things you wouldn't have imagined you'd experience being single... like moose and metal - good one!

(on the other hand, as I sit here eating campbell's chunky soup out of a can I can much appreciate the mundane things like owning my own orange juice carton and being able to grow my own cultures in my 'frig!)

I'm not sure how strange it is - but lately I've really noticed how nice it is *not* to have to consider someone else when I make plans. I want to go on a holiday next year overseas. So I will. I might work overseas for a while, or I might move and work somewhere else, or I might stay where I am. But whilst I'd miss my friends if I moved, I'm quite free to choose any of the above and not have to worry about it having major ramifications for anyone else :D

I can go visit friends out of town for a weekend without having to plan it much ahead, I can leave my room in a complete mess if I'm in a hurry, I can watch whatever I want on tv, I can stay up till whenever I want playing on the Internet.

Hmmm, essentially I guess I just like being able to be stuff that would be considered selfish if I wasn't single
