Hi all!
I used to be a devoted member of the Assemblies of God church. I used to be quite passionate about sharing Christ with others. I was also involved in a group which was called Jews for Jesus. Its main purpose is to evangelise the Jewish people. When I started reading my bible for myself, I had no other choice but leave both groups. AoG was like a cult, Pastors too authoritarian, Experiences were psychological manipulation, people were trying to be "led by God" not thinking for themselves. And I'm sorry to say but J4J is quite deceptive. They lead Jews to think their group is Jewish. Its one thing to talk about the advantages of Christianity. But to deceive people for the sake of sharing Christ just seems wrong. Anyways now I've decided to re-learn the Bible from the beginning and I need help. I'm struggling with lots of passages at the moment.
No matter how hard I try I simply cannot get my pea-sized brain to reconcile Romans 11 (where Paul says all Jews will be saved) with our need to come to Christ to be saved. Several Jews have died throughout the centuries without knowing Christ. Can you see the contradiction? Nobody comes to God except through Christ. Yet Paul says Jews will be saved. Sounds like a contradiction.
I guess I'm just looking for a straight answer. Do my Jewish friends need Christ to accept Christ or not? If they don't, are they in risk of eternal damnation?
Blessings!
