  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

ebia,
How does this follow? Made up history is foolish to everyone.
History? Sorry what do you mean? There are a number of NT verses and passages about the scriptures being foolishness to the world.

aussie Anglican,
God told the hebrews to commit genocide. I only say thats "what god said" cause u actually belive it.
Genocide is your word. Not only did those people not believe the disobedience in the garden of eden, they knew what God told them and still they persisted, so they were destroyed. You got a problem with what God did?

Since “bible-literalist christians” like yourself
Ok, so did God tell them to commit genocide, seems like bible literalist christians like yourself think so.
claim that the Bible is to be taken literally when it comes to homosexuality,
Homosexuality is obviously the barrier you have.

Jesus said sell all your possessions, when will you do so?
Not to Zacchaeus He didn’t. He said that to the man who wanted to justify His wealth. When you start to take Christ’s NT teaching about faithful man/woman marriage and the prohibition of homosexual relations literally then you can ask me about talking things literally.

Luke 14:33 In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple. (NIV)
Yes indeed if anyone loves something more than Christ they cant be His disciple. What about homosexuality?

the bible is a series of pre-montheistic, pre-hebrew pagan myths that have their orgions in the myths of the Babaloyian and summerian religions...the fact u people still belive it to be a direct revelation from the lord our God is not only naive but dangerous!!!

I am not really sure where to begin but here goes: 1. At most what you say can only be applied to the first 11 chapters of Genesis. I am not sure how Paul's epistle to the Romans could be said to be "pre-montheistic [sic], pre-hebrew pagan myths that have their orgions [sic] in the myths of the Babaloyian [sic] and summerian religions", unless I have missed something obvious. 2. No one is able to demonstrate that what is recorded in Genesis 1-11 have their origins in Babylonian or Summerian mythology. Of course there are similarities, but that is not really un expected as ancient Israelites shared the thought-world of the Ancient Near East. Moreover this isn't really new to evangelicals, after all check out John H. Walton's Ancient Near Eastern Thought and the Old Testament.

Further, I would classify myself as Catholic & Reformed and one of my favourite theologians is Herman Bavinck who defended the concept of 'organic inspiration' which allows for sources. Personally I would say that the final form of most of the Hebrew Bible is exillic or post-exilic.

We are not part of AAC. Our bishop is a personal friend of Archbishop Duncan. Our assistant rector went to Trinity (Duncan is on the board). So we have close ties to ACNA, but choose not to break with the Communion until we have to. We will see how the Presiding Bishop uses her new powers after July 1st. Our church property ahs been protected by the South Carolina Supreme Court (not like other states), so we are OK for now.

We also have close ties to the Communion in many countries. We regularly are working with other provinces and churches with mutual visits and other activities. Bishop Nasr-Ali is a spritual advisor to our diocese and we look to him for leadership more than Archbishop Rowan. We also look to the African leaders. My hope is that we will be forced to leave, will join ACNA and then come back in when ACNA is finally accepted. But then, many don't think that there will any reconciliation at all, and we will be left with 2 communions and more.

Our bottom line is that we are one of the original diocese of the TEC. Our churches are united behind our bishop. We do not want to leave.
What a moving post, mark1! I do hope that your diocese and your churches continue to have faith! Just out of curiosity, what were some of the things your bishop did that in your view could merit being kicked out of the TEC?
