Eucharistic Adoration (Lutherans only please)

Is Eucharistic Adoration appropriate?

  • Of course, it is truly the Body and Blood of Jesus, after all!

  • No, it is (or borders on) idolotry

  • Other (please detail in post)

  • I am not a Lutheran, but I really feel the need to vote anyway

The minute that the DCE began to do Baptisms should have been when someone contacted the Synod office and informed them of what was happening.

Why? The Synod approved and sanctioned non-ordained laity (no matter their degree or ministry) to celebrate the Divine Service w/Holy Communion, perform baptisms and so on. There are two LC MS parishes nearby that do just this and it has been approved.

Q, just because a synod gives approval for something doesn't mean that it is right. The synod gave David Benke absolution for his prayer at YS. Did he really deserve it? The DCE is not rite vocatus and therefore should be kept out of the duties performed by the OHM. I am surprised that you yourself would approve of this.

DCE's are ill trained to be doing anything but constructing the Education of Christians in Sunday school and the Youth group.

I do not approve this. I was being facetious. I think that it is disasterous, despicable even blasphemy and this is what we are in communion with...God Forbid!

Phew! I was afraid you had jumped ship and joined the liberals on this topic. I am getting too old to handle this kind of shock to the heart. ;)

Just want to clarify your position on these issues - are you saying that laity do have the ability to do baptisms and preside at communion, but it should (almost) never be done for the sake of church order and to avoid erroneous teaching? Or are you saying something else?

Hello, IowaLutheran

If your question was directed to me, I will say that
The Confessions know of no celebration of the Sacraments apart from a properly ordained (rite vocatus) priest/pastor.

DCE's...I could write a book!

In fact my husband and I were talking about DCE's just two days ago. He said he would never vote to hire or "call" a DCE again. We have been in 3 different parishes with 3 different DCE experiences and all of them were disastrous! I know a lot of synod folks get all up in arms about Benke and Yankee Stadium, contemporary worship and the like but at the local congregation level this stuff never surfaced. However...the DCE problems we witnessed just tore right through congregations creating sides and the hard feelings and battles that go with that. I don't know why...but I am not convinced it is always the DCE's fault. The whole DCE has 300 different bosses thing doesn't help.

Lay Ministry? :o    :help::cry:
