  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Large American cities have restaurants which are ethnic or nation specific, e.g., Italian restaurants, Asian restaurants, French restaurants, German restaurants, Middle Eastern restaurants. Where I live, none of them are open for breakfast. Why is that?

The exception is Mexican restaurants. There are lots of Mexican restaurants in my town, and they are all open early and have a fine selection of Mexican breakfast dishes. I know those other folks must break fast some way, so why don't they serve it to the rest of us? Is it the same or different where you live?

(All those who find the use of "ethnic" and "those folks" to be invidious are welcome to come picket in front of my house. I could use the excitement, plus I just got a new paintball gun I'd like to try out.)

A lot of sit-down restaurants in Toronto aren't open for breakfast bc there's not enough people who go out for breakfast. At least not during the week. Some are open on the weekend for brunch. We have a lot of cafes & coffee places open early including intl places.

What's your favourite ethnic breakfast?

Hmm... I used to live in Toronto, in Etobicoke to be exact. I can recall tons of restaurants there being open for breakfast.

Here we don't have many Italian restaurants, French restaurants, German restaurants or Middle Eastern restaurants.

Restaurants usually open up for lunch and close in the wee hours of the morning.

At the same time, there are some restaurants here that go 24/7.

Oh cool! There's a lot of casual cafes, bagel shops, bakeries & stuff open for breakfast where we live too. Just lots of the most popular lunch, dinner sit-down restaurants aren't open for breakfast during the week. Like my favourite Thai & Ethiopian places aren't open that early. But like places just to get pastries, eggs, yeah.

Maybe you're just more attentive in the mornings than I am, lol. I know business people have breakfast meetings sometimes. I'm still a student. I just get coffee in the morning, lol.

Yes intl = international. Sorry I'm on my phone so using shortcuts, lol.

There's some great places that have weekend brunch. I like the way Japanese restaurants make omelettes! I like the miso soup for breakfast too. I like Spanish eggs too, they make them in olive oil. I like the really thin Swedish pancakes. I like Turkish coffee!

I like chilaquiles. I've never had those tacos. I like breakfast tacos. I love breakfast burritos!

Theres this food truck that serves Middle Eastern food that's on point. They make these waffles made out of falafels! They look like waffle cones like what you get ice cream in but they fill them up with savory stuff. I mainly get lunch there but it could count as breakfast.

Continental Breakfast only entails bread, or at best a muffin. If that is what you want, there are many coffee places that serve it already, so it is hardly worth being open for it.

Only the Full English does Breakfast properly - but as someone quipped, to eat well in England you need to have breakfast 3 times a day.

The Ancient Greeks and Romans sometimes ate a mixture of cheese, milk, and flour for breakfast. This was uncooked and often sweetened with honey into a dough, called Nestor's Cup. It is not unlike eating cookie dough, actually.

The Spartans ate a disgusting gruel though. Alcibiades the Athenian exile famously said "No wonder Spartans are so willing to die" after eating it.

There are restaurants that serve ONLY breakfast, or serve ONLY dinner. Would you expect something like LongHorn Steak house to serve eggs over easy and Cheerios? Of course not.

A toasted bagel with lox and cream cheese. And a slice of tomato and red onion. Does that qualify as ethnic?

Sure! Love that, except the red onion. Mornings are rough enough without having stinky breath, lol.

Some English/Irish pubs serve breakfast. In continental Europe, breakfast is usually just a cup of coffee and a roll/piece of bread.

Continental Breakfast only entails bread, or at best a muffin. If that is what you want, there are many coffee places that serve it already, so it is hardly worth being open for it.
I guess Americans just eat too much.

That does sound different from where I am. I forgot about Japanese omelettes. They like them fluffy. I saw a video where this chef made one so fluffy, laying on the plate it was about 6 inches tall.
