Hiya, I was thinking of something the other day and it's bugging me.

Say that you were strolling by the beach one day, and saw a person drowning. You 're an apt swimmer, and could easily rescue them. If you walk on by without rescuing them, are you committing a sin?
Treat others as you would like to treated?

;)

If that's a yes, then it seems that we Christians have a problem. You see, there are many starving nations in the world, which we have the resources and capabilities to help. This case is no different from the others - So our witnessing countries starving without rescuing [not merely helping] is actively committing sin. What do people think of this?

Are you trying that we enforce a diverse group to a single moral standard. It is an ideal, but untenable model. Additionally, there are many Christian groups who do this very sort of thing.

Do you have any data to back up your claim? I have seen several Christian organizations make an attempt to help individuals in the world the problem is that there isn't enough resources to do so.

Are you saying that morality is relative, and my fault lies in trying to universalize it?

And why is it untenable?

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" - If you were starving in the streets, would you expect a man who had food aplenty share his feast with you?

I would want him to, and the principle of justice says that he SHOULD do it, but there is nothing that objectively compels him to share anything with me. Christ never forced morality on anyone. He left people to make their own choices.

'Resources'? What resources are we discussing, my good man? Answer, for you seem to be wise in such things.

Uh like FOOD? Methods of transportaion? Foundings for that kind of project. If all of the Christians went off to help those in need where would the money come from?

The choice to starve, it seems, and for no other reason than they were born in unfortunate circumstances.

Tell me - who owns the earth?

Well, I heard [perhaps erroneously] that the 200 richest americans possess 60% of the world's wealth. Perhaps that's a start?

They may not be Christians, but if money equates to resources then who are they to lay claim to 60% of the worlds natural resources?
