I got up at 6pm, contrax every 5 min. Went to hospital got there at 7....Doc decided to "observe" me as I'd done this 3 times before. I breathed through the contrax until 8-9pm, when they were every 2-3 minutes and I couldn't handle it as well. Was going to get the pain stuff when the nurses come rushing in, the monitors said Ethan's heart rate was dropping. On my back I got, 7 tries later, an IV is started, oxygen etc. I end up on my right side not allowed to move as this is the only way to keep his heart rate out of the teens. They let me have half a shot of something because I couldn't move but being in pain I couldn't help but not move. I was checked and was 7 and fully thinned. Lots of doctors were called, the head nurse was thinking C-Section to get the baby out in time. While waiting for the doc, which took a whole Trek ep, I went to 10. The shot didn't was sleepy stuff to keep me calm - I couldn't feel my tongue. They broke my water at some point, that didn't hurt.
The doc came in he wanted me to push and I wanted to to. They said it wasn't working. The head nurse wanted to do a C-Section. I said no get me up off my back so I can push and I can do it. The OB agreed I could try. So up I got, given something to pull on, given a place to hook my feet into which helpped and I pushed. Ah much better. Pushing felt so good, it helped with the pain. Waiting for a contraction was the worst part.
The doctor noticed he was stuck. Really stuck and I had to blow through three contractions while he reached in and felt. Apparently what should have been smooth was ridged and he was stuck but we could do it. Ethan's heart dropped again and so did mine. The doc said he had to cut me and reach in and help pull the baby up and over as I push. He gave me a local for that and that's when I finally screamed(the nurses pointed this out I was consintrating not worrying if I made noise) I mean this man had both hands up to his wrists in my hoo hoo pushing and twisting Ethan, up until then it wasn't mind blowing I can't handle it pain. It took over an hour but Ethan was born at 2:18 purple and they rushed him off and made him cry etc to get him to breath.
My placenta had detached they don't know from him being stuck or from the placenta trouble they know I had. It came out it pieces which made them keep me on pitocin for 6 hours and had to keep pushing on my belly to get all the bits out.
Being sewed up after was the worst part, the worst, except for the sleepy stuff and the local I was pain med free. I felt the sewing. Yeah, icky! 28 stitches later, I was sewed up. I got to have Ethan. They made me try and breastfeed but he was too mad(they poked him with a needle until he cried several times, I'd be upset too) so I told them to take him, let us sleep for a while and come at it when we're both not overly excited etc.
Of course my MIL kept saying "He'll starve bottle feed!" but Ron was good about kicking her out, which they would have any way. 3 doctors and 12 nurses were around for Ethan's birth - we caused many nurses to have to take overtime. When he came back after we were both better and he nurses pretty well once I learned he likes football hold best.
Apparently between my placenta and my pelvis, it stressed my poor baby out. He's here now.
So far I know he hates being unwrapped the tighter the better. He only cries when I have to change him or he's hungry. He eats well but I think the hospital 3 hour thing won't work, not only does it make him not go to the bathroom enough but he's too upset to eat, every 1.5-2.5 hours is when it's best. Waiting until 3 usually makes it twice as difficult as he's telling the whole world he doesn't like to be kept waiting.
I'm healing well. The pain is pretty good, I'm taking advil for it and that's mostly for the cramps and all over body pain(feel like I was ran over by a truck), not the episiotomy site.
Ethan's dropped to 6lbs 3oz but he seems to be doing fine. I'm going to go eat and relax as somebody will want to eat in another hour.
Once again, he was born 10/22/2006 2:18am, 6lbs12oz, 20 inches long
