I had an Italian lady tell me that Italian IS Latin, in the same way English is related to King James English. Is that accurate or overstated? I can see relationships for the little bit I have seen of each, but hard to tell not knowing either well.

In a way, Spanish and French and Italian and Portuguese are Latin as it's developed over the years. A lot of the words are similar, and the grammar's been simplified (very few case endings in the modern languages), but just because you understand one doesn't mean you understand the others.

Thanks for the info, sis. ! I suppose you're going to participate in the Italian forum just to show off Actually, I have these Italian CD's that I never seem to have time for. There is also this Italian immersion class that I'd like to attend, but it's way too intensive time and money wise. Besides, like most classes, it's conversation oriented and there's no writing involved.

I would enjoy a German language forum, weil ich Deutsch sprechen kann.

Russian would be fun, too, since I have a Cyrillic keyboard and would very much like to work on that. я говору по русски немножко.

OTOH, now I have no excuse not to give Spanish a shot. That's a language I have wanted to work on for a long time (but I'm lazy).

Anyway, it is good to see CF expanding into other languages.
