I first started watching this show when it first came out. About 5 or 6 episodes into it, I stopped watching it. Almost 2 years ago, We picked it up again. Happy to see that medically speaking, they are a lot more precise in what they do. I do think that the show pushes the boundaries and don't really know how long we'll watch before we decide to quit. My favorite character is Carter tho.

Do you watch and like the show?
How long have you been watching it?
Has the show gotten any better in the years or is it flopping?
Do you think the show is on it's verge of presenting their final season?

God bless!

Lemme add some controversy(sp). Before the superbowl and janets popping surprise, ER had (among other things... like abby flipping her mother off and the cussing for primetime tv) shown an older woman being treated for a heart attack when they showed her bare chested. The week AFTER the superbowl, they were going to have another scene much like the first. Since my hubby (MrCozmo) used to work in an ER and I understand medically speaking that this happens every day in every ER in the country, I thought it was tastefully done and shouldn't have been edited the second time (it was all of a 5 second shot and was not sexual in nature at all)... but what do yall think?

I have watched ER since it started. But I took a brief hiatus myself for awhile. I stopped watching after Doug left and started again right before Mark died. And I stopped after Mark died, then off and on for the last several years. I started again with the whole Africa storyline. That was pretty good. And the whole helicopter falling on Romano. I couldn't stand that character, but what a way to kill someone off!

I do like what they have done with John Carter's character. I like how he has matured. I flip flop back and forth with Carrie's character. Just when you think she has no heart, you get to see a tiny glimpse of one. And I really like Abby. I wish the writers would give her some stability. And the new nurse, the one that used to play on Freaks and Geeks. I like her. She livens things up!

But I think the show has about ran it's course. It's time for it to end, in my opinion.

Yes and yes. :)

How long have you been watching it?
4 or 5 years maybe?

Has the show gotten any better in the years or is it flopping?
I think it's had its good and bad moments in all the seasons. Though I like the smallness of the cast in the first season as compared to the number of cast members now.

Do you think the show is on it's verge of presenting their final season?
I'm not sure. I'm never good at answering questions like that. :D

mark green died?

i knew he had a tumor in his head and had surgery.. but didn't know he was gonna die?

lol, quess its been a while since i saw the show.
Yeah, he died several seasons ago. I think after the surgery, the tumor started growing again, or it returned, something along those lines. It was after him and Elizabeth had separated (they may have even been divorced. I am a little sketchy here because I wasn't following it closely at this point.)

Anyway, the tumor returned and he actually stopped all treatment and went to some tropical island with Elizabeth and his two children, Rachel and Emma(?), to reconnect some with them and to die in peace.

It was really sad. I always liked the character of Mark Green. I hated to see him leave the show.

I think she had just "moved out" and was living in a hotel room. She felt it wasn't safe for her daughter, Ella, to be living in the house with Mark's daughter, Rachel...as Ella ingested some drugs that Rachel had in her backpack. Mark wouldn't press charges against his daughter, so Elizabeth moved out.

:)

Yes
Since the first episode
It's always been unbelievably good.
Gosh, I sure hope not.

Yes the cancer returned. He stopped the treatment because it wasn't working and it was making him very sick. Kind of took an active stance to not put himself through that if he was going to die anyway. Very brave and honorable thing to do IMO.

Elizabeth went to stay in a hotel for a very short while because of some friction between them over Rachel mostly. They weren't "seperated" in a serious or permanent sense. They weren't considering divorced. In fact, Dr. Green didn't want to tell Dr. Corday (Elizabeth) that the tumor was back because he knew she would come back to him. And he wanted her to come back on her own without worrying if that was the only reason. They never stopped loving each other. They were just dealing with some serious stress issues. Especially after Rachel almost killed Ella when she was supposed to be watching her...and wasn't. I mean...what marriage wouldn't be stressed over something like that?

He went to Hawaii where he grew up, with his wife Elizabeth, and daughters Rachel and Ella. He taught Rachel how to surf and how to drive a car and showed her where he had grown up...to sort of leave her with something. It was a very fatherly thing to do. Very bittersweet.

Yep...I'm sure any fan of the show would say that Dr. Green was a character that we'll miss. Funny, nobody seems to say that about the other many characters that have left the show over the years.

Ah, yes. It's all coming back now. Thanks Wisdom Seeker! I had forgotten about the whole drug thing with Rachel and Ella.

But I did admire the fact that Mark stopped the treatments and decided to spend the last bit of his life with his family. Tough decision, sort of a no win situation for anyone no matter what he did.

i have religously watched this show since it first came out. I agree, they REALLY SHOULD NOT have gotten rid of George Clooney's character Doug...The show did take a lot of changes.....too many new people all at once.....I love carter.....and abby and luca...as for the rest...i really dont care.....i bought the 1st season on dvd, cant wait for the rest to come out though...

did any of you like Dr. Romano? i liked him...thought he was a trip, had a funny attitude....cant believe that they killed him off the show...and really....what a way to go right? pretty messed up!

Used to watch it all the time, but it's turned into a really bad series. They do "a very special ER you can't afford to miss" every other week and the characters are terrible these days. Abby's a whiney brat, Luca sleeps with everything in a skirt and Carrie should have been under the chopper that killed Romano. It was much better the first 2-3 seasons. M

Loved to hate him for sure. Was sad to see him go, he definitely kept everybody on their toes... but you know, the thing Karry(or however you spell it) dedicated his memory too was equally as funny... considering.

Well God bless you too for watching the great American TV series that is ER.
I used to watch it during its daytime slot on Channel 4 in the UK. It's really gripping stuff. I especially find Noah Wyle's character the most entertaining to watch. The one episode that sticks in my mind is when the former lead character who was a baldie was struck by brain cancer and was everyone was shocked to death by his departure. Unfortunately, I can't seem to remember the actor who plays the character. Is it Anthony something?
Personally, I think ER is the best thing that has ever happened in George Clooney's career. He's brilliant in the series. The same is true I think for Noah Whyle whom I've seen in one Hollywood picture only, DONNIE DARKO. Whyle doesn't make a great deal of impact in that film, unfortunately.
I think Whyle should really have been cast in the X Files as Mulder's long lost brother. Now there's a thought! But that's a different story altogether.
Maura Tierney who I think plays the character of Abigail in the series is also pretty hot.
Overall, ER is high on emotional intensity, which is something I thoroughly enjoy. And, its also written (or directed?) by Michael Crichton who is also the man who wrote Jurassic Park! Crichton's writing is pretty epic, admittedly, and this serves the actors very well indeed.

Romano - a very mysterious character indeed! Do any of you remember when his hand got chopped of? He was always treated as dirt by the other characters, which I thought was rather hilarious. But at the end of the day one senses that deep down he was actually a good man with good intentions but he never got the chance to show it. Nor was anyone interested in seeing his good side.
