I think that's part of the remaining unanswered mystery - who is still there, who died, and who left?
Locke saw Walt? or Jacob as Walt or the Island trying to keep itself hid.
I think this is exactly like Locke seeing Boone point up, or Eko getting instructions from Yemi, or Locke having an airport vision of everyone. It's essentially the island giving him instructions.
And who was Mrs Arlen? the woman Jack rescued from the car. And who DID die? that was a complete mystery to me.
I don't think there was any significance other than the fact that it was someone Jack could fix.
At least, who made it off the island in that version of reality. I think this has to be the same as Desmond's future/flashes -- just one version of what might happen.
I disagree, I think this is a very real reality. When Desmond went back and changed things, it's because he already knew the initial future. This time, it's Jack not knowing the future. I think it's more of a promise (and tease) that at least some of them will make it off the island.
The future flashback was a good twist.Whatever the Island really is, the truth about it was enough to make Jack wish he had never left.
I don't think that's exactly what it was. I think he wanted to go back because his role on the island made him feel good about himself. Now he's back and hates returning to "normal" life. He's now in the same boat as Locke - the difference is that Locke realized he wanted to stay on the island, but Jack didn't.
It might have been Locke's funeral.
That was my first thought, and it fits - no family, Kate wouldn't want to go, etc.
A temple was mentioned, when Ben told Richard to lead the others there.
Ben mentioned a couple episodes ago that they were going to a "very old place" (I think those were the exact words). I think he was referring to the temple. I wonder though, if it's a temple in the traditional sense, or if "temple" is a looser or non-literal term.

Yes, it fits her sense of humor. I think she actually didn't know what it was for. Now that she's fully betrayed Ben, she has no reason to lie to the Losties (at least with our current knowledge of things).

Something about Desmonds vision: He told Charlie he saw Charlie flip the switch that turned off the blinking yellow light and then drown. Except, in actuallity the drowing did not follow immediately afterwards. Desmond did not forsee Charlies conversation with Penny, or the message on Charlies palm. Hmmm...
Think about (no pun intended) his flashes that ended with finding Naomi - he only saw bits and pieces, not the full thing.
Also...why was it the first person to initiate contact with the `Looking Glass' from the outside world was Penny? How did she manage that?
That's a very interesting question, I think. It was certainly real-time, not a recorded message, which means she was actively trying to reach them right at that moment. Has she been trying constantly for the past month or so since the island revealed itself?
How did Locke get mobile again so fast?

Also...how far in the future were the `futurebacks'? Two or three years, maybe? The cell-phone Jack used looked like a recent model.
It did, but chances are that if he isn't taking care of himself, he hasn't bothered to update his phone. It could still be a few years in the future...like in

It's funny... When I first started watching the episode, my sister came in the room and asked me to rewind to the beginning. I jokingly said, "This scene is supposed to be 7 years in the future!! Watch carefully!! She believed me and I laughed.
Unfortunately all of us did the same thing - in the first 10 seconds of the episode I thought it might be a post-crash scene.
When I saw Jack in one of the scenes, he was on his cell and I said, "You know... not many people had Motorola RAZR phones back in 2003/2004.... in fact, I'm not sure if anybody had them at all!!"
The Razr launched in 2004 - that was a big tip-off for me too, I just forgot to comment on it at the next commercial break
I wonder if the "hero" references had to do with his involvement in bringing people home from the island as well as rescuing the woman on the bridge?
Yeah, I think they were drawing a comparison between the pre-island hero Jack, the island hero Jack, and the post-island hero Jack. I think the similarity is his desparation to save everyone possible, the difference is how he sees himself while doing it.
At first, I thought that someone had crashed into Jack's truck that he left idle in the middle of the road and that it was supposed to be a sign.... like, "It's a good thing you contemplated suicide... otherwise you would have still been in the car and would have exploded!"

Remember: in that future, Jack's father was still alive. "Call my father down here, and if he's less drunk than me, you can fire me." And, "The prescription was written by Christian Shepherd. I'm Jack Shepherd, he's my father."
Think about how the new chief of medicine looked at him when he said that - I think Jack's dad is long dead, he was just referencing the fact that his dad was a drunk, but was never fired.
That whole space-time continuum thing that Cuseloff have been alluding to has a lot to do with what we saw. In one past, Charlie is playing a Green Day song on a street corner and Desmond runs up to him knowing he was with him on the island (that this Charlie has never been to). Last week, we saw that scene in Charlie's flashback, and there was no Desmond running up to him.
It was Oasis, not Green Day
But they were two entirely separate events: Charlie's clothing is different, the street is different, he didn't have the sign...I don't think it was meant to be the same occurance.
If Jack was having this "future flashes" as he was walking through the jungle, similar to how Desmond had his flashes, he may realize right where we left off that Ben was right and they shouldn't get off the island -- since that's the last thing he flashed on after making contact with the sat phone.
It's an interesting thought, and possible - but I think what's going to happen is that Naomi's boat isn't actually a rescue boat, and they'll be stuck on the island for another 3 seasons.
Can't believe Sawyer killed Tom after he surrendered. "Dude, he already surrendered.' "yea, well I didn't believe him."
I didn't believe him either - Tom was way too smug about surrendering.
I counted a total of 15 deaths last night. 10 Others, 2 woman from the hatch, Mikhil, Naomi and Charlie.
We don't know for sure Mikhail is dead. He seems unkillable.
I guess my feeling is that the person who died was Juliet.
That was my thought after the episode, it would certainly fit with Jack's and Kate's reaction.
What was Juliet's sister's name. Her last name.? Could the woman Jack saved from the car Mrs. Arlen (and her 8 year old son) be Juliet's sister and Julian? Maybe this is why is took such an interest in the two of them.
Just a crazy thought.
