  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just heard Elvis singing how to enter Heaven:

"It's so high you can't get over it;
So wide you can't go around it;
So low you can't go under it;
You must go in through the door."
So, I guess we need to find the door, and I see that shown in the Bible at such as John 10:9 & John 14:6. Praise God the door will open to all who knock ---for no one can break it down!

The funny thing about sheep is that they cannot be herded like cattle. They have to be led by something or someone they trust. If you try to herd them, They will scatter.
Kind of puts in perspective John 10:27-28

I don’t think we have to knock. We just have to do this:

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matt 4:17 RSV

Yes, that is partly true. Knocking refers to coming to God at the door by faith; and addressing Him (Jesus said He is "the door"). Repent means "turning" and that is first, and includes John 10 and John 14 ---among other Gospel verses as to receiving the Savior ---right?

In the biblical context, I think "repent" means we are to discontinue (turn from) our sin.

Yes, and God also spoke of Him repenting in Genesis, which means He turned from His course to a new direction, not about Him sinning (note Gen. 6:5-8).
Yes, I suppose "turned from" is the common thread. The Lord turned from, or changed his mind about, the plan he had. We are to turn from, or stop committing, sin.
