English standard version bible?

Our pastor said we were going to start using the English standard version bible in church. Does anyone else use it? I use NIV.

Yeah, and if you don't want to make the switch yet yourself - at least get an ESV and use it alongside the NIV.

I use the ESV for personal study, the NIV for witnessing/teaching. I love them both!

that its an easy to read bible that is word to word transalation.

I'm not personally familiar with it, but have several friends who tell me it is an outstanding translation.

If you're looking at one for your personal use, I can recommend the Reformation Study Bible ESV. I have the NKJV and the study helps are excellent - all from a Reformed perspective (obviously). So you'd be getting great study tools and a good translation all in one.

By the way, if you look up a favorite verse on the esv website, at the bottom is a link to compare the verse with another popular translation. If you have a personal favorite (mine is Titus 3:5) you can easily compare the translation to several others, including the NIV.
