That makes your Bible about 30% smaller. Why would you call it a trap ?

I don't dismiss the importance of the endtimes as being God's plan for humanity, nor do I deny the importance of the scriptures that describe them. However I think the whole game of pin the tail on the antichrist has been going on for centuries, and it seems to me that this speculation as to whether we are in the endtimes or not has been going on for thousands of years. I don't think we are in a place to predict when its going to happen. My view is that it is important to prepare, by living a spiritual life, but the speculation, to my mind, is a distraction from that. Christ said that we would know not when he would return, so it seems to me that trying to figure out precisely when by looking for the signs is folly. This has been consistently demonstrated throughout history by all the times it was predicted and did not come to pass.

Christ said that we would know not when he would return,
Just a point here: Jesus never said we wouldn't know when He will Return.
He said:... you do not know the day your Lord will come. Matthew 24:42
In the previous verses, Jesus says that Day will be like what happened in the days of Noah; worldwide destruction!
NOT the Return in glory for the Millennium reign of King Jesus, which we WILL know, as that Day will be exactly 1260 days after the Temple is desecrated. Revelation 13:5-8

The day that will come unexpectedly is the soon to happen Lord's terrible Day of fiery wrath. The world changer which will set the scene for all the prophesied things to take place before the Return.
We should know about it and be prepared, physically and spiritually.

1st Thessalonians 5:4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness, so that the day would overtake you like a thief
Without study and careful watching we won't be overtaken. I don't try to figure out precisely when Jesus will return. Jesus gives a list of signs in Matthew 24, with the big "sign" being the AOD spoken thru the prophet Daniel. I don't believe Jesus was trying to quench our spiritual life or distract us and it's certainly not folly to heed His words.
Peter warns in 2nd Peter 3 -
3Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts,4and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers [a]fell asleep, all things continuejust as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5For https://biblehub.com/nasb_/2_peter/3.htm#fnwhen they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, 6throughwhich the world at that time was destroyed by being flooded with water. 7But by His word the present heavensand earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.

8But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 9The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but ispatient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance.

Hi there,

End times is not my bag, but I agreed to post this offering from a friend...

from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.
The End of the "Daily Sacrifice" was when Jerusalem was defeated and the Mosque was completed about 666 AD.
The "Abomination of Desolation" , or the fake Dome of The Rock was built over the foundation stone of the world in 691/2 AD. Taking this date and adding the 1335 Years makes 2026/27 a significant year. "Blessed is he who waits" for that years Event of All the Millennia.
We have just had the 1st Trumpet call and it has been totally ignored and corrupted , that is also very significant confirmation.
Climate will play a big part and will be getting much colder over the next 3 years. There are signs in the sun, and it is already happening...

Comments appreciated.

I'm not sure why you're friend thinks this. The text says days, not years. The end of the regular sacrifices began under an edict from Antiochus IV Epiphanes, the Seleucid king who conquered Judea in his war against the Ptolemies in Egypt (previously Ptolemaic Egypt had control over Judea, but the Jews still enjoyed some relative freedom of autonomy).

Here is what is written in 1 Maccabees,

"Then the king wrote to his whole kingdom that all should be one people, and that all should give up their particular customs. All the Gentiles accepted the command of the king. Many even from Israel gladly adopted his religion; they sacrificed to idols and profaned the sabbath. And the king sent letters by messengers to Jerusalem and the towns of Judah; he directed them to follow customs strange to the land, to forbid burnt offerings and sacrifices and drink offerings in the sanctuary, to profane sabbaths and festivals, to defile the sanctuary and the priests, to build altars and sacred precincts and shrines for idols, to sacrifice swine and other unclean animals, and to leave their sons uncircumcised. They were to make themselves abominable by everything unclean and profane, so that they would forget the law and change all the ordinances." - 1 Maccabees 1:41-49

Several years later, this happened,

"Now on the fifteenth day of Chislev, in the one hundred forty-fifth year, they erected a desolating sacrilege on the altar of burnt offering. They also built altars in the surrounding towns of Judah, and offered incense at the doors of the houses and in the streets. The books of the law that they found they tore to pieces and burned with fire. Anyone found possessing the book of the covenant, or anyone who adhered to the law, was condemned to death by decree of the king. They kept using violence against Israel, against those who were found month after month in the towns. On the twenty-fifth day of the month they offered sacrifice on the altar that was on top of the altar of burnt offering. According to the decree, they put to death the women who had their children circumcised, and their families and those who circumcised them; and they hung the infants from their mothers’ necks." - 1 Maccabees 1:54-61

Several years later, the Maccabees led a revolt and successfully freed Israel from Seleucid control, creating an independent state. Under the Hasmonean kings an independent Jewish state lasted until the military conquests of Rome, resulting in disposing the Hasmoneans, and installing Herod as a puppet king, with Judea as a client kingdom of the Roman Republic--and later a province of the empire.

Personally I tend to avoid the trap of being absorbed in end-times thinking.

I imagine that the end-times has been predicted and speculated upon since the days of the early Church. It could be that it happens on Thursday, or a thousand years after I'm dead. Personally I think its more productive to work on conducting myself in such a fashion as to be able to give a good defence on the day of Judgement.

Well as almost 1/3 of teh bible is devoted to prophecy yet to be fulfilled, we should not be ignorant of it either!

However, trying to set dates, describe things in detail the bible doesn't etc. is a fool hardy mission. We are in the last days simply because Israel is back in her land again and God is judging her to prepare them. How long that will last- don't know. But it should motivate us to live as you strive to!

Scofield's bible.

No other Bible.
5.0 out of 5 stars Bible Prophecy important! 26.8% of bible is prophecy--most are prophecies still not yet fulfilled (for future)!
Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2014

This is a classic, written by solid, biblically conservative, hermeneutically sound bible teachers including: Mal Couch, Steven Ger, Arnold Fruchtenbaum. and Randall Price. Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson are the Editors, but they do not contribute any articles.

Why is bible prophecy important to understand?

According to “The Encyclopedia of Biblical Prophecy” by J. Barton Payne, there are 1,239 prophecies in the Old Testament and 578 prophecies in the New Testament for a total of 1,817. These prophecies are contained in 8,352 of the Bible’s verses. Since there are 31,124 verses in the Bible, the 8,352 verses that contain prophecy constitute 26.8 percent of the Bible’s volume.

These verses that make up 26.8% of our Bible.

Not one historical defender of the true faith among your "sound bible teachers".

Rapturists and racialists all. I'm surprised you would cite them.

You know better.

Your comments on my post #47, show your 'knee jerk' opposition to anything and just about everything.
All I did there was to give the statistics of how much of the Bible is prophecy. And we know from the historical record that not much of it has ben fulfilled as yet.

Apparently you don't know better.

Dispens tell us what they know about the "historical record":

John Nelson Darby
"I do not admit history to be, in any sense, necessary to the understanding of prophecy."

So much for your "historical record".

Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? Luke 18:v.8

1 Timothy 4:v.1-2 NIV -
1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

1 Timothy 4:v.1-2 NASB -
But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron

1 Timothy 4:v.1-2 AKJV -
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron
