Which raises the question: Is nudity or even semi-nudity (not talking any sexual activity) in movies now perfectly acceptable? Should tasteful nudity now merit a PG or even a G rating?

Depends on context, nudity in non-American films is not that big a deal and it alone wouldn't warrant an upped rating. A little while back I saw "War of the Buttons", which has a gang of boys charging down a hill naked (which DOES make sense in context) and that was rated PG. American films are more uptight but that's probably because if someone is nude in an American film it's probably IS in a sexual context.
