This is a tough one.

I HATE rap/hip-hop music. I REALLY can't stand hearing every other word a swear word and glorification of illegal drugs and, worse, gang activity (I use that to encompass any number of illegal activities associated with gangs), which is VERY prevalent in this style of music. I don't care if it happens in the real world...making it sound as though it's a good thing, which hip-hop does, is WRONG. Not as much in Eminem's work, as he didn't grow up in the 'hood...he is more "old style." Nevertheless, his lyrical material leaves a lot to be desired.

HOWEVER, I always tend to give people props where they're due. In my opinion, Eminem and Snoop are a couple of the most talented artists of our time. If I were forced to choose rappers to listen to, it would be these guys. That being said, if ALL you listen to is rap/hip-hop, you are GOING TO BE affected if you are not VERY mature spiritually.

My advice would be to give Eminem about 1% of your personal air-time, and load up on stuff that is quite a bit more tame, if not down right uplifting.

dear heavens! Eminem? Good grief! That boy hates the world! Sure he is talented but he needs to not hate everyone. That's the saddest way to live is to hate everyone! I just hope that somehow He'll have a relationship with God and I believe that will change his way of thinking and reaction to the world.

There is one other thing that needs considered. For one, he doesn't "hate the world" like people have said. In fact, he is sitting pretty on top of millions of dollars and enjoying every minute of it. he has now everything he didn't have growing up. Respect, reputation, a daughter that he loves more than anything, and wealth. Yeh, he has problems like everyone else, but for the past few albums, it's been more like a story about his life. Some anger may stay with him, but a lot of it was released when making his songs. I know because that's also how I do mine.

He's "pure evil," and "stay away from him," eh? And what were you before you met the Lord? And what are you without Christ's blood? Was Jesus' sacrifice not enough to cover Marshall Mathers' sins as well as yours? Do you really think you are so much better than he is? Sin is sin, my friend. What if God had said to Himself those very things about you? "She is pure evil. I should stay away from her and avoid her like the plague." How can you sit there and condemn this man with your words like that? Would Jesus condemn him or would he forgive him?

Excuse me, kg, but I am not condemning Eminem (only God knows where he's going). I am advising ppl. to stay away from his music, not him (considering he's famous and has tons of bodyguards everywhere, most ppl. wouldn't get to him anyway). The music is evil, bottom line. It's more extreme than that of many secular artists I've heard. Oh, and about Jesus forgiving Eminem? If Eminem repented of his sins, Jesus would forgive him. No doubts there. However, I am Catholic, and my faith teaches that w/o sorrow for sin, there is no forgiveness. Bottom line. Objectively speaking, God isn't going to let any human being into heaven if they have unrepented serious sin on their soul. If that were the case, murderers who had no remorse would have the same chance at Heaven as would a saint.

He doesn't hate everyone? Well, maybe not everyone, but if he wasn't full of hate, then he would have never written songs about raping his mother and killing his ex-wife.

Speakerboxxx/The Love Below is one of the greatest double albums ever. They remind me so much of the Fugees. Great rap, but with real instruments, and a lot more to it beyond the "typical" rap material. Great band.

Well, I like Outkast and Eminem, but it is naive to think that Outkast is "better" to listen to because it has fewer than 260 expletives per cd. If you own any Outkast cds you are aware that there is abundant profanity and descriptive sexuality.
